Five best welterweights ever, head to head?

Ok..I'll save you from making an extra post and I'll concede that the matter of cuts may have been an achilles heel against these guys for a prime Napoles, but it dosent mean that a tko loss for Jose would have neccesarily occurred.

 

Agreed teeto. If i were to have a welterweight list i would prob have oscar around 17 or 18th. I apologize about the Quartey and Whitaker fights. I can see Quartey edging it(though it's hard with the 12th round happening the way it did). It's the whitaker fight that pisses me off. I have scored that fight 10 times, and each time I had oscar winning by 1-2 points. I just can't see how whitaker won.

 

:good i can see how it's close, i had it a draw myself, but i always thought the point deduction might not have been really necessarry, my memory is dodgy though, i don't have any problem with people scoring that one either way myself.:good

Two names that should have been thrown around a lot more in this discussion are Barbados Joe Walcott and Tommy Ryan.

These guys were deemed to be almost unbeatable in their day.

Dont think Mayweather could beat any of these guys.If its head to head Its Hearns he was just 21 years old when he fought Leonard,if they would have had a rematch at 147 Hearns would have stretched him,he beat his eye out,and Leonard was never the same,and beat him up and overwhelmed him in the rematch when they were past their prime,so here's my list:

I think of this in tiers...because once you get down the list a bit it often becomes a matter of styles, some guys struggle against some types, some guys thrive against others.
I think someone like Tito would do far better against Quartey than Hoya did but of course he had major trouble beating Oscar.

He was more than just a boxer but THE symbol of the German economic miracle and post-war Germany. Never got the chance to fight the best at his time due to him beeing a southpaw, very high risk/low reward and beeing German. He had some common opponents to some of the best American fighters like Charles Humez and Peter Müller. He was more impressive against them than his American contemporaries. Müller went 1-1 with Giardello and over the rounds with Gene Fullmer. Scholz blasted him out in one and three rounds ...
