Floyd isn't elite, he just managed to navigate his career very carefully and fool people into thinking he was sth special. Mayweather wouldn't last 8 rounds with a true elite fighter like a prime Erik Morales.
If you're just talking US then you might have a case. Worldwide we have plenty of elite Eastern Europeans, Cubans etc. and more of them are turning pro than ever before. The US needs to really do something about their amateur system, that's where fighters are made and the US is falling further and further behind.

There are a lot of great fighters who were accused of not facing this or that guy. That's always in question-with fans. The word "duck" in boxing is thrown around here like you all boxed before lmao. I don't accuse boxers of this unless there is a blatant disregard for not fighting someone they should fight. The last ducks in boxing that I can remember are Lewis Bowe and Calzaghe Ottke. I almost threw Hattons name for avoiding Witter, but since he's fought Floyd and Pac I'll let him slide.
Surely you don't really believe this, right? I always wished Floyd would've been able to fight at 130 lbs a little bit longer, just so he would've been able to fight the Fab 4 of this era at that weight class-- MAB, Morales, JMM and Pacman. FLoyd fought at 130 for a substantial amount of time but had to move up to LW because he couldn't make SFW comfortably anymore. There's no doubt, in my mind at least, that Floyd was the greatest SFW in the history of boxing and I think would've manhandled all 4 of those guys. I honestly believe he probably would've knocked out at least 2 of them at 130 lbs. I know Floyd is a very polarizing figure in this forum, but we're talking about a true ATG here- he's been ranked as a Top 10 P4P fighter since 1998. That's spanning 16 years now. He would've obliterated Erik Morales. Because of Morales' style, I'm sure Floyd would've broken him down by the 8th or 9th round.
Well put. Even All time greats like Ray RObinson and Jack Johnson were accused of "ducking" fighters in their era. The # 1 P4P guy of the sport always has there say in who they fight and no # 1 P4P fighter I can ever remember was able to appease the boxing fans 100% of the time. The idea he ducked guys like Margs, Williams and Cotto are laughable. The only fight I really wanted to see happen which didn't was between him and Pacman. But the problem with FLoyd and Pacman is they both feel at the time they were the # 1 P4P fighters in the sport, and when you deal with 2 egos that large, it makes for extremely tough negotiations. I still hope they fight at some point soon since I think both of them have a lot of gas left in the tank.
It also comes to mind when Margarito came to talk in person in a public place to Mayweather, with him freezing and becoming more tense and paranoid than a meth addict.

The amateur system still produces good fighters, they just dont stick around and stay amateur. Most Americans with talent go pro when they're still in their teens.
