Pissing me off currently.....best fighter post 2000 with a chance to become best fighter post 1980 if he took advantage of the division he's in.
A top 25 all time great right now. He can become #1 ATG depeneding on what he dose from hear on out. His compotion up to this point could use an upgrade but it is not anywhere near as bad as his detractors would have us beleve.
excellent defense great counter punching ability and speed, but bad sportsman and as proved against hatton he can be crafty and dirty. great fighter but he lost alot of respect on december 8th
...and that's a Judah coming off a loss to Baldomir (who incidentally has to be one of the worst champions ever).
an amazing boxer, espicially at 130. If you aint seen floyd fight at 130 watch one, espically corrales
I agree. Mayweather is undeniably an amazing boxing talent, but you would have to mad to think that he hasn't wasted his ability a fair bit. He has only actually beaten two young undefeated challengers in his entire career - and only one of those was at his normal weight, the other had already been shown to be much less effective at the higher division. Maybe the fights weren't actually available, I don't really know - but his record does seem to contain a lot big names that were not really a big threat. Even if an undefeated challenger doesn't turn out to be what everyone expected it's still should command respect if you are the one to take the risk when you don't know what their ceiling of abilitiy really is, it's pretty lame to wait until they have already been exposed before considering adding their name to your resume. De la Hoya has nine fights against undefeated fighters at their natural weights (not to mention fighting Sweet Pea when you are 24, which even at his stage of his career was going to give DLH problems). Shane Mosley had seven fights with undefeated fighters at their natural weights (I've including De La Hoya as his only defeat was to Trinidad which didn't provide any conclusions as to his ceiling of ability.) Hopkins has five (plus Trinidad). Felix Trinidad had five. Miguel Cotto already has five. Pacquiao has five. Wlad has four. Winky has four. Calzaghe has four. Mayweather has one. There are a couple of defeated fighters which could be counted too (Chavez...possibly Manfredy) but there are no recent ones, and if I make exceptions for FMJ then there are going to be even more on everyone else's list. Don't get me wrong, I believe he is almost certainly the best boxer alive today - but if you want to call yourself P4P #1 then you have to consistently prove yourself against the best competition in your division (the hardest challenges, not the biggest names) - which he has done once...and over seven years ago.
