-No one is saying Floyd isn't good. -No one is claiming Floyd has never beat a good fighter. -No one is saying Floyd isn't possibly the best fighter out there right now. What is being said is this: -Floyd has consistently picked fighters who provide least resistence, then uses the spectrum of media to hype the fighter, their chances, and the fight. Just because you're buying into the act doesn't mean you're stupid, you're just easily influenced. Most americans are. -Floyd is discrediting more viable challenges instead of using that same tactic to build them in what will be a bigger fight for his overall career and the boxing world. -Floyd only gives a boxer credit when he knows he can beat him, he refuses to acknowledge guys who may give him trouble as even good fighters. He is trying to manipulate you guys into taking what he has done so far and making it out to be greatness and you're falling for it. -I want to put things into perspective for all of you. If Shane Mosley called out JMM for a fight at WW, the entire boxing community would rip him apart. Mosley was one of the best lightweights around, as was floyd, but floyd gets away with this. The only issue with Floyd most of us are having is that he is trying to create this alternate universe where he has proved everything he could have and that his career was amazing. I, and a think most other fans, would be fine with Floyd going about business in this manner if he admitted he was doing it and stopped trying to cover up his opponent selection with smoke and mirrors. His entire career has been Risk vs Reward with not much on the risk side. Now where most of you again try to defend him is that this is a smart tactic for preserving his career and making a lot of money. Of course it is. It is also the reason any intelligent person around here is calling him out on it. If he doesn't want the criticism or is offended by it, then he should change his methods. The best way to summarize Floyd's career is to look at the odds of all of his 'big fights.' Odds makers put into perspective exactly what chance the other guys have had. Next time Floyd fights someone and you want to defend his choice, go drop 3,000 on his opponent if you think the dude has a chance. And if you think no welter weight in boxing at least has a chance of beating floyd mayweather, then you're a blind moron.

Good point LukeO. We are so hard on Floyd precisely because HE IS that good. There is no reason for him not to be fighting 147 and 154 lb fighters. He would still be favored at those weights. That's precisely it. Anyone under those weights stands no chance.
Every single pound is a weight class now-a-days. Being undefeated doesn't mean ****. Some greats lost their first professional fight. Floyd won some of those titles off of some chump ass boxers. Baldomir? De La hoya at jr middleweight in 2007?!! the **** Zab Judah after losing to baldomir?!!? A formality title win? come on. How much can these titles even possibly mean anymore?
I think all all good wins, except Gatti, which was just ok. Corrales: The top contender at 130 and was in the P4P rankings. Castillo: PBF beat the Lightweight Champ in his first fight in that division, and then rematched him. G. Hernandez: Hernandez had a very long reign and is a great Jr. Lightweight. Hatton: The Light Welterweight champ (fight night he was in his usual weight) and also an undefeated and P4P fighter. De la Hoya: This fight was at 154. DLH is nearly an ATG, but was 34 or 35 years old. JMM: The Lightweight champ. He's much smaller than Mayweather. Good win after a long layoff, nothing more. I think 154 is too much for Mayweather, he has nothing to do on that division, he already conquered a title there. He SHOULD fight Mosley or Pacman/Cotto winner to prove us all that he can also beat the best welterweights.
sure he is undefeated. so is calzaghe and valero. perfect record is one thing but having a great resume is another. i have always viewed greatness as a combination of having a great win loss record at the same time going up against great competion, hence resume wise. dlh despite having one of the greatest list of of resume lost most of his big fights, ditto with duran. pbf has corrales and possibly castillo as his greatest win in my opinion. and these two are way far off from being considered HOF or ATG to be honest.
i can accept this as this is more or less my opinion. genaro was at the twilight of his career. he was 32 years old when he met pbf. hatton and jmm are smaller fighters than pbf. dlh was 35 if i am not mistaken and borderline atg.
One of the best posts on the general section on ESB. Finally someone with some intelligence and sense. Well written, terrific and accurate points. I'm done jumping on your dick but someone had to make a point like this to simplify things. There seems to be this war among Floyd haters "Not giving him any credit" and Floyd haters claiming Floyd hasn't done anything worthwhile. Plenty of people are still in the middle with some sense when it comes to Floyd. An exceptional talent, no doubt. There seems to be this knee jerk reaction back and forth almost as if you fight the grounds of truth for your fighter. It all seems to start and end big time between the Pac vs Floyd fans and the anti-Floyd fans. For those who thinks the guy is just hated for being cocky... related check.

To be honest i have to say the de la hoya, and hatton wins are his most impressive to me.....floyd was hurt in the first castillo fight, won convincingly in the re-match......i believe corrales was weight drained..... baldomir was lineal, say what you want to about baldy, he was still WW lineal.... but de la hoya was floyd's toughest fight.....and hatton brought out the best in floyd.....floyd had to fight his opponents style to win, and use all his attributes to do it...
They were good wins, but not on any level that compares to an ATG. Watching sugar ray leonard come back to fight Hagler is different from watching PBF come back to beat up a little dude with no chance. If thomas hearns was in the WW division right now do you think floyd would even dream of stepping in there with him? No. He would tell ESPN that he is too easily knocked out and he stands no chance.
I think Floyd can beat ANY fighter from 154 down. That includes Cotto, Williams, Winky or any other name fighter within 10-15 pounds simply because he is SO DAMN HARD TO HIT! And even when he does get hit, it's never flush. Besides, when he has been hit flush he has shown to have a solid chin and great recovery skills. No bickering or **** talking is gonna take anything away from Floyd. 40-0 without breaking a sweat. He's an ATG for sure!
Thank you, I have been trying to argue with point on some other random posts but they were lost in the fray. I just want to create closure on the entire argument where we can all look and say "yeah, he still has something to prove to keep making the claims he is." If he wanted his legacy to be PPV buys and numbers then mission sort of accomplished, but he still hasn't touched Tyson or DLH in money. I also want to point a very specific thing that fans should have picked up on and how strong of a statement it was. Floyd Mayweather referred to himself as an entertainer. That is the same logic WWF started to pull when people were calling it out on being fake and scripted. So they admitted they were to appease the fans who caught on. Now Mayweather is facing the same force of criticism and pressure where they are starting to see what is really going on and now he is going to have to play the entertainer card to explain why he chooses the matches he does and defends how they are promoted. Most promotion is obviously a lie and very forced to create a conflict. So instead of facing the music and taking on the real challengers Floyd has altered his persona to make it acceptable to do what he is doing. In my opinion he will never be in the all time top ten P4P list at his current rate.
