    HUH??
The public is not asking him to fight williams, ****... half the public has no idea who williams even is. They want him to fight any good real welter weights and williams falls into that category. We're sick of him beating people we already know he can beat, that's it. End of story. He's fighting a bunch of novelty fights, not championship tough fights.

If he takes on Pac/Cotto and Mosley, that will be enough for me. Even if he doesn't win them all he will move up on the ATG list. Sugar Ray Robinson/Leonard didn't beat them all either, the difference is they fought them all. Roy Jones Jr didn't beat every fighter he ever faced, but he fought the best fighters in his weight class, even if he waited until he was past his prime to do it.

This fight from Mayweather is like the Roy Jones vs Felix Trinidad fight, yes he should get credit for beating Marquez, just like Roy got credit for Trinidad, but this is not the same as the amount of credit Roy got for John Ruiz, or beating Antonio Tarver the first time. Mayweather would have to take on Shane Mosley, or Cotto or Pac because they are the best in his weight. If he really wants to prove he is the next Sugar Ray Robinson and not just another Sugar Ray Leonard then he will have to take on Paul Williams too.

I think hes good enough to beat any of them, but as his resume stands right now hes just not ranked higher than Mosley, DLH, or Felix Trinidad, if hes even on the ATG list at all. And he certainly isn't up there with Sugar Ray Leonard, Bernard Hopkins, Roy Jones Jr and James Toney. He has a long way to go.

i never said they were not good wins. i said castillo and corrales were great wins.

dlh and genaro would be good wins in my opinion but lessened in impact considering dlh was 35 and genaro was 32. both clearly on the decline.

Floyd Mayweather will rightfully go down as one of the greatest boxers of all time. His technique and skill is unmatched regardless of what name you throw out there. That said Floyd will NOT take any unnecessary risks and has never been in the position to take any unnecessary risks because he is pretty much always up on the score card. He obviously wants to remain undefeated throughout his career and until somebody steps up and gets Floyd down in points late in a fight I don't see him ever taking foolish risks by brawling and looking for knockouts and why should he? Fighters will ultimately be judged by wins and losses.

Nope, fighters will ultimately be judged by who they won against.

    Great post :good

I used to be a sympathizer for Floyd and backed him for taking the Hatton fight and then retiring, but coming back now when his old biggest threats (Margarito & Cotto) are now vulnerable and to face a lightweight is downright ridiculous.

    Judged by wins and losses?
Why isn't rocky marciano ranked the number one fighter ever?
Gatti and Ward had a bunch of losses, don't think people think less of them for it.

His skills are unmatched? It's this kind of nuthuggery that causes rational fans to think Mayweather has something to prove. I'm tired of people comparing him to Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roy Jones Jr, or Sweat Pea. He may have the skills but nobody is disputing that he is one of the most talented boxers in our generation. What we are disputing is his level of greatness which has nothing to do with talent.

Naseem Hamed had talent, but in terms of his resume he's not an ATG. Floyd Mayweather Jr has talent, but according to his resume hes not an ATG. To be great is not the same as being on top of the P4P list. Shane Mosley is great because of who he has fought and beaten, and beaten in the prime of their careers. Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr are great because they beat some of the greatest fighters of all time when they were in the prime of their career. You can dislike Hopkins but he beat a prime Felix Trinidad, a prime Oscar De La Hoya, and there are many other fighters like Winky Wright, Kelly Pavlik, Antonio Tarver, all who were either in their primes or who had the title at the time when he beat them.

Roy Jones Jr beat a prime Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Montell Griffin, Virgil Hill, Mike McCallum, and he actually moved up to heavy weight and beat John Ruiz.

James Toney beat a prime Mike McCallum, a prime Vassily Jirov, a prime Michael Nunn,

When I say prime I mean these fighters were at the peak of their powers, on a win streak and when they had these fights nobody was sure who would win.

what facts, that dlh was 33 or 35? that is inconsequential.

here, i will change it to suit your taste airhead.

genaro. 32 years old when pbf fought him.
dlh. 33 years old when pbf fought him.
jmm 36 years old when pbf fought him.
gatti. 33 years old when pbf fought him.

mosley. 38 years, IF pbf fights him,

He cant be an atg by just saying he could beat those fighters. he has to actually face them and beat them to become an atg...which he has so far refused to do with lame ass excuses like hes a business man or they have 5 losses. How many losses did Baldomir have when he was "lineal" champ?

Sadly for Floyd fans and nuthuggers, they dont realize that just because someone says they are the greatest fighter ever doesnt mean they actually are. He looked great against Marquez..a much smaller fighter. He looked great against Hatton..a smaller fighter. He's a welterweight...why doesnt he fight other welterweights?

Im not denying Floyds talent, he very well could be the best ever. Until he actually faces top level welterweights he's just another great fighter.

Floyd is great! Floyd been either world champion or P4P number one 10/11 yrs he was in the sport and just beat arguably the top P4p fighter in the sport. You don't get those accolates by being a pretty good fighter. Floyd just beats his opponets so easy he makes it seem to easy for his HATERS! 1.
