You think that's funny? May dominated fighters with an extremely low punch outpoint . That's called efficiency
Can't see a way Mayweather wins here. He can't outbox Hearns (who is too long & rangy) & he can't out muscle him as he's not physically strong enough, nor does he have the punching power. I see Hearns winning by either late round stoppage or a wide decision .
I’m not sure if you’re serious or not. I can’t think of a worse stylistic match up for Floyd. He didn’t have the size to have outboxed Hearns, nor the power to have stopped him. He would have had no road to victory. Now of course, smaller fighters can outbox bigger fighters if they’re technically superior. We’ve seen this countless times throughout the history of the sport. Smaller guys can beat bigger guys. But when you have 2 great technicians, where one is significantly bigger, that’s when the size issue really comes into play. As great as Floyd was, he was 5’8 with a 72” reach. Thomas Hearns was 6’1, with a 78” reach. Again, you wouldn’t just have been looking here at Floyd fighting a guy who was much bigger. You’d have been looking at a guy who was significantly bigger, but who was also a great boxer, with great technical skills. Floyd Mayweather could not have outboxed a technician of that size. Wilfredo Benitez was a great boxer, with great technical skills. But he couldn’t outbox Hearns. Ray Leonard tried boxing with Hearns but got bashed up. He then had to switch tactics, where he fought Hearns in a shootout. An option that Floyd wouldn’t have had. Marvin Hagler didn’t even try and box with Hearns. Because he respected his size and his boxing ability, and he knew that he was vulnerable to power and pressure. He said before the fight that he was going to jump on Hearns. He would never have boxed him like he did against Duran. Again, Floyd didn’t have the option of going after Hearns like Marvin did. Virgil Hill was also a great boxer. And he too couldn’t outbox Hearns. You could only beat Hearns by overpowering him. Floyd couldn’t have gotten inside of Hearns’ reach to have won a decision. You also have to look at the psychological factor, and genuinely ask yourself whether you think that Floyd would have gone in there and been confident of a victory. From watching Floyd’s entire career, I believe that he’d have been in survival mode, where he’d have fought in a very defensive manner, as to not have gotten hurt. He’d have had huge respect for the power that Hearns possessed. Whereas Hearns wouldn’t have respected Floyd’s power at WW or JMW. This is of course assuming that Floyd would have taken the fight in the first place, which I think would have been highly unlikely. The fight would have had a Hearns U/D written all over it, unless Hearns had’ve really wanted to have made a statement. If you don’t agree, then please give us a logical breakdown of how you think Floyd could have won a decision.
It’s not logical to think that Floyd could have outboxed him to a decision. He’d have needed to have been very offensive, whilst also avoiding Hearn’s arsenal from a 78” reach. How would he have avoided the jab and gotten in and out, whilst banking the majority of the rounds? A 5’8 Floyd couldn’t have done what Leonard and Benitez couldn’t do. He would also have been extremely wary of Hearns’ huge power.
Impossible. Hearne is just as fast. Hearns jab would be too difficult for Mayweather to get past. Leonard is faster then Mayweather and he couldn't outbox Hearns. Tommy too quick too tall and he's the power to keep Mayweather at bay.
Says who? You? I will concede this would have been a hard fight, and Floyd would have had to overcome some physical disadvantages.....but to sit up here and make statements that Floyd Mayweather would have no shot at outboxing someone at 154, when hes already outboxed the strongest 154 fighter of his own era shows that you either don't know a whole hell of a lot about boxing, or you're just an out and out hater. Good day to you
Great Post Louden.......You are absolutely correct . Only way to beat Hearns is to outslug him. Who out boxed him? In the first Leonard fight ----SRL tried to box but lost most of the first 5 rounds. He became a slugger after ripping a left to the ribs in round six and decided to become the hunter. Hearns stayed the boxer.... No way. Repeat for emphasis. No way Floyd outboxes Hearns. And this will **** people off but much has to do with physical characteristics. I love Hearns. Appreciate the legendary work of Floyd. But this is a bad matchup. Tommy Hearns by decision.
Leonard didn't need to outbox him. He tagged him clean a few times and took him into deep water and Tommy faded and wilted under the pressure and had baby giraffe legs and couldnt even maintain his balance. That would be a recipe for disaster against Mayweather
He didn’t beat Canelo with power. He beat Canelo with speed. He couldn’t have overpowered Hearns. Floyd only had respectable power at WW and JMW. For most of his fights at those weights, he was a safety first fighter with hand issues.
Again, you're creating a false premise. Mayweather doesn't need to match anything that Leonard does. Mayweather just needs to fight like Mayweather
