You’re not looking at what they both achieved. You’re looking at how they’d have matched up stylistically. Also, Canelo was young and naive against Floyd in 2013. He showed him far too much respect. He stood off of Floyd and was concerned about getting countered. Floyd was ultra confident because he had a reach advantage and a significant speed advantage. Floyd wouldn’t and couldn’t have fought Hearns in the same manner though. Think about logically for a second.
I don't know if you ever saw Hearns, but it only takes respectable power and a well placed shot to end his night
Boxing like Mayweather does wasn't the way to beat Hearns. At least 3 posters in this thread have explained in detail why that is the case. Why isn't this registering with you?
He was never a better JMW than Hearns, and he never presented Floyd with the obstacles that Hearns would have presented Floyd with.
Hearns wasn’t unbeatable, but you needed things that Floyd didn’t possess in order to beat him. It’s always about the styles. It’s always based on how they would have matched up stylistically. For Floyd to have edged Hearns, he’d have had to have fought very offensively to have banked the majority of the rounds, but whilst also avoiding what Hearns was putting out. At 5’8, Floyd wasn’t getting inside of Hearns’ huge reach. Realistically, he’d have fought in a defensive manner, as he’d have been ultra cautious of Hearns’ huge power. As great as he was, Floyd did nothing in his entire career to lead people to believe that he’d have fought Thomas Hearns in an offensive manner. Nothing.
Cause a lot of posters on here don't know sh!t about what they post. Anyone who would get on here and make a statement that Floyd Mayweather would have no shot against ANY particular opponent at either 147 or 154 is a moron. Now, I'm not saying he beats everyone in history at those weights, but he would certainly be a tough match for anyone in history. So to blindly write him off shows your ignorance
And which of Hearns opponents had anywhere near the type of style that Mayweather had? Who ever presented Hearns with the type of obstacles he would face agains Mayweather? Why is it your logic only goes one way?
I don't remember Floyd ever going to the body like Leonard did, and, by the time he got to 47, Floyd was very careful with his hands. It wasn't in his nature to pressure a fighter- "walking down" McGregor doesn't count because he isn't a fighter- so what is he going to do with Hearns? I don't believe that Hearns would stop Floyd, but he should beat him easy. Keep him at the end of the jab, flash the right hand to keep him honest. Floyd would have to fight differently than he ever did at that weight to beat Hearns.
Why is boxing like Mayweather 'not the way to beat Hearns'? I mean it beat Pac, it beat CAnelo, it beat Cotto, ODH, matter of fact Cotto, CAnelo and ODH were all 154 fights if I'm not mistaken. Since when has a guy who tired in tough fights and has been KOd hard several times been the impossible mountain to climb? What was Hearns best win at 154? His two round destruction of a shop worn Duran? Coming off two losses including a quit job? I'll put any of those 154 wins by Mayweather up there with that
How many of those boxers had the reach to out jab with him? How many of those boxers had such a significant height advantage over him? How many of those boxers were in their prime?
Christ in Heaven. Hearns would go into this fight knowing it was going to be a boxing match. He would dance, dodge, and fire that right hand. Floyd would have to pressure -----bad news . He would be spending too much to much time avoiding { successfully mainly} Hearns. This is a complicated fight. Does anyone really believe that Floyd could apply the pressure of SRL ? Nooooo.... If he did.... Floyd certainly lacked the firepower to put TH away. If it went to war >>>> bad news for Floyd quickly. if not Decison This..... I would bet on
Both leaonard and Hagler were smaller, and SRL was not considered a power puncher.... And Floyd handles height and power just fine against Corrales
Hearns had no problems with defensive maestros like Duran and Benitez. Hearns had no issues with boxers shorter, with less range, limited power, and low-output.
Corrales was weight-drained and was nowhere the monster that Hearns was. Hagler was a legitimate middleweight and power puncher. Leonard was a powerful combination puncher. Next?
