I'm late joining this thread and this has probably already been mentioned but the difference between Mayweather, DLH, and Pac is one guy is NOT an action fighter therefore he has to resort to theatrics outside the ring in order to gain recognition. Also DLH just had a natural ability to draw attention from females who don't normally watch boxing so that helps him. And Pac got an entire nation to jump on his back just by fighting on HBO. Whitaker and Hopkins are/were great defensive fighters like Floyd but fail to become top cash cows.

If Floyd was humble he'd get the same type of attention Americans give the Klitschkos. I can't think of any other fighter besides Floyd who is considered "boring" yet still be able to dominate with PPV numbers. That's a huge accomplishment in itself.

Mayweather is probably the least convincing "heel" I have ever witnessed. He comes across like an 8 year old kid trying to emulate an old school pro wrestler. It is one of the things that made me promise never to contribute a single penny to his career.

Mike Tyson was considered a badass. Floyd is seen as a punk-ass.

I think it's mainly because of the intimidation factor.

Every person who even follows boxing, casually, knows that the heavyweight champ of the world can kick anybody's ass.

He's big, he hits hard, he's intimidating.

Even if you really like him and root for him, there's bit of respect and intimidation in there. Like he could fck you up if he really wanted to, but he wont cause he's a cool guy.

But a loud, vocal, 5'8, 140 pound "boxing villain", even if he's p4p the best, just doesnt command the same respect and intimidation as a 6'5, 230 pound heavyweight champ.

Some people get annoyed and see him as an obnoxious little squirt, rather than a warrior-king type.

    Oh yes HE DID!!!
Floyd's been known to hit some people. He's been convicted of misdemeanor battery in 2004, and misdemeanor assault and batter on 2005... these does not include the Ms Harris issue that was dropped...

You can have a mouth and still keep it respectful. Sugar Ray use to talk trash but kept it respectful for the most part and his stock and marketability outside the sport eclipsed Floyd. If you truly have charisma and a good personality that will transcend your sport. DLH, Tyson, Ray....they've all done it. PAC is the closest thing to those guys at the moment. Floyd SHOULD be but for whatever reason he chose anther route.

Tyson was humble though outside the ring and he wasnt loud and bragging all the time.

Tyson when time to fight displayed just a bullying personality like you would think any combat fighter would.

What im saying is...Floyd is obnoxious before the fight allllllllllllllll the way up until the the fight is done...then he shows humility for some reason. Then you might catch like a once in a blue moon interview where he is humble. So Floyd kinda annoys you into really just disliking the guy.

Tyson's villain role was developed in the ring because of his demeanor and brutality.....later in his career though i think he got a little out of control with somethings but it was still always during fight build up or during the fight.
