floyd does not fight toe-to-toe because he doesn't want to get hurt and lacks power. he is very defensive to avoid getting hurt and just pot shots to gain scores and not inflict damage because he is not offensive minded. he was made to win a lot because he only fights in vegas with familiar judges and referees plus exclusive usada drug testing .
floyds #1 major weakness he could not possibly fight every fighter in or within 2 weight classes of him that his haters could possibly come up with as legit threats
He was tall, but, he gave up his height too much. And he didn't really have a jab. It would look like he was trying to swat a fly at a BBQ against Floyd. I think Floyd would be able to get in land punches and get out, more often than not. I'm not saying he couldn't lose against PW. But, he has a good chance of winning a decision.
Lara is lacking two major qualities that are why he can't beat Mayweather. 1.He doesn't like to fight,2.he can't adjust. Once you start to land punches on Lara he goes from runner to trackstar, that isn't going to beat Mayweather. Mayweather for all his slack is a very good offensive fighter, Lara's only game plan is to maintain as much distance as possible, an sprinkle in enough shots to make it a close decision. People give him the benefit of doubt because of "style" but there are plenty of "Boxers" who are enjoyable, Mayweather,Loma,Gonzalez, Gamboa,Crawford,ect...Lara is a flat out negative fighter. Won't have the speed edge, experience, IQ or skill. All he can do is run?? With Mayweather's defense you can automatically count on his already low output to drop, so what's left PBF is good Offensively/Defensively going forward or backward all signs point to a UD PBF.
Oscar was right that his jab was landing, until "he stopped throwing it." Better yet before it was taken away from him. Fighters do land the jab against Floyd more than any other punch now a days. Its because Floyd does not move as much, so I think a fighter would have to be taller with a long reach that throws the jab often. But, most of all that fighter would have to have the mindset to not stop throwing it. A lot easier said than done, there is no 147 lb fighter that has the dimensions with the mindset.
He can allow himself to get outworked at times, he can be selective to a fault with his punches. Particularly against guys who apply good pressure. Clever feints can be effective against Floyd, and he can go to the ropes more often than he ought to. Nobody he fought was good enough to take advantage of this to score a win, but it think it would cost Floyd against the very best of them from 130-140 (Duran, Chavez at 135). Injury prone hands. Floyd has decent power, it was better at the lower weights, particularly 130, but still not the type of power to end a fight or dramatically change the momentum with a single shot. I don't know if that's necessarily a "weakness", but it's an area that he's behind a lot of other ATGs. Jesus Chavez ate like a million clean uppercuts before he finally stopped coming forward, and that was at 130. Very few weaknesses, he scores pretty high when it comes to "completeness" as a fighter.
