37 is old as hell in boxing but he had maidana in pillow gloves so that evens it out. Maidana with out power is nothing. Cmon man those were sparring gloves
He's always been talented the problem is he fighting guys that shouldn't be sharing the ring with him!
I think a combination of both. Maidana slowed down, I agree. He came out at an incredible pace and Floyd also made necessary adjustments.
The more aggressive the opponent, generally the longer it takes for a boxer to time and figure him out. The same aggressiveness that gets early results can actually contribute to the fighters downfall later on, as they get countered coming in. Happened a few times tonight, but maidana fought very very well
Floyd is so fortunate to still have his zero, he isn't anywhere near the unbeatable fighter or the best ever as some of his fans believe. I wonder what the Floyd fans think about Lomachenko now, the same ones who said "no excuses" when a fighter is bigger and fouls. Floyd was hugging more than Lomachenko did as well.
His lack of power would really hurt him against someone fast and powerful....especially at this point of his career....
I was getting a Mayorga-Forrest vibe all fight long. It wasn't a skill issue- sometimes that just happens in boxing. Textbook fighters can have issues when someone's so outside the book that they have to adjust on the fly instead of being on autopilot. Frankly I, and practically everyone else, wasn't expecting Marcos to do that well, and he deserves credit for it. Doesn't mean that Floyd somehow is that much less skilled than the result may imply.
He just might be that much very skilled when facing a fighter as awkward and prepared as maidana....and he still found a way to come out on top....people keep saying you fight the best enough you will lose or find your self in tough matches....seems to fit the bill.
