The only problem with chuvalos version of the fight is that Terrell won the first 11 rounds. Give Chuvalo the last four.
I have Chuvalos book also, but I would not call it: "The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth".

    Williams lost to Chuvalo WOW!
You do know Williams was 38 years old don't you?

Chuvalo lost a unanimous decision to Terrell in his hometown of Toronto,it wasn't even close.

    Stop with the B.S. Chok.

The Chicagoan, who had a seven-inch advantage reach, threw stinging left hand punches to Chuvalo's face almost from the opening bell until the final gong.
Although there were no knockdowns, Terrell, who weighed 206, drew blood from Chuvalo's nose and cut him about both eyes.
The Canadian, who weighed 209, required 10 stitches to close two five-inch cuts over his left eye.
Referee Sammy Luftsprihg scored it 72-65, judge Fred Nobert called it 73-65, and judge Jackie Burke made it 69-65 for Terrell.
The fight was scored under the five-point-must system, in which the winner of a round receives five points and the loser four or less

For a guy who was supposedly this legendary banger that everyone avoided Williams record is anemic even against the guys he did fight. Everytime he stepped up (except against Terrell and I submit that Terrell wasnt in his prime yet and was fighting in Williams backyard) he didnt look so stellar and rarely got the KO or even the win. That tells me all I need to know. People can talk about Patterson being protected or having a weak chin but he has less losses and less KO losses than Williams over a higher level of competition consistently over the course of his 20 year career. Against that higher level of competition Patterson's KO % is less than 1% less than Williams. Given the fact that Patterson actively chased a third match with Liston even after Liston lost the title and Patterson had nothing to gain from the fight, actively chased Ali, actively chased Johannson after being obliterated by him, etc etc. I find it ridiculous to suggest he feared Cleveland Williams' padded record. I also wouldnt make Williams a favorite under any circumstances.

You do realize that Chuvalo was 34 and 82 fights under his belt. Lets not pretend he was some fresh daisy fighting Williams who had 88 fights.

That being said its ridiculous for Chuvalo to suggest he should have beaten Terrell. The problem with Chuvalo's story (much of which he gets incorrect in his book) is that he has admitted that he fought the fight on its merits and that, if anything indeed wasnt kosher about it, he didnt know until after the fight. Terrell clearly controlled him and outpointed him so even if the referee and judges were in the bag they didnt have to do anything wrong by giving the decision to Terrell because Terrell did everything he needed to do to win. The bottom line is that Chuvalo wasnt nearly as good as he ever thought he was and Williams wasnt as good as his fans today think he was.

Chuvalo wasn't carrying a 357 magnum bullet in his stomach though was he? Williams was essentially finished after that.
He still gave the" WasherWoman "a good fight.

"George Chuvalo, 227, scored a unanimous 10 round decision over Cleveland (Big Cat) Williams, 229 1/2, last night in the Astrodome. Chuvalo had Williams in trouble several times but never could put the Houston product on the floor. Willimas cut Chuvalo under the right eye in the 1st and across the left side of his nose in the 2nd. But despite opening those cuts that bled throughout the fight, Williams was unable to mar Chuvalo's unusual record of never having been knocked down in his 84 fight pro career." -United Press International

    • Unofficial UPI scorecard - 97-95 Chuvalo

You keep pumping up that overprotected unathletic limited white hope Roy Harris who looked like a scared little boy curled up in a fetal position against Sonny Liston, while Williams backed Liston up, Broke his Nose, and staggered him. What an embarrassing performance by Harris, one of the worst I have ever seen. Why don't we ask liston who was better, I'm sure he would say Roy Harris . I think I read in Listons book he said Harris hit just as hard as him, and no one wants to fight Roy Harris

Ernie Terrell was 23-3, hardly green. Just one year later he defeated top 5 rated Zora Folley. This was the only time Terrell would be knocked out for the next 10 years. Give Williams the full credit he deserves. I thought he beat Terrell twice, so did AP scorecard 48-47 for Williams.

:lol: Except the most important thing, Punching Power. Hurricane Jackson had no punching power. Williams had a lot of it.

From 1956-1966 ONLY world heavyweight champions were able to beat him. Terrell, Ali, and Liston. Williams went 1-1 with Terrell, and nearly 2-0 against him.

He was the only man to knockout Ernie Terrell until Terrell's final fight in 1973. He was ducked for years by top contenders but still managed to get a few in the ring with him.

He fought number 2 ranked Eddie Machen to a draw, an impressive result showing that if he couldn't knock you out, he could still box on even terms with world class boxers. AP scorecard had Williams winning by 3 points.

I think Eddie Machen came away impressed with Williams. Here is what he had to say.

"In a way he's tougher to fight than Liston because he has the speed the other doesn't have. You can't walk around Cleveland like you can Liston." -Eddie Machen

"This was one of the best heavyweight fights ever put on anywhere. Both of them looked like real professional heavyweights. I'm happy with the draw"- Sid Flaherty Manager of Machen
    - The Bulletin July 11 1962

He beat Future WBA Champion Ernie Terrell, Top 10 ranked Alex Miteff and Top 10 ranked Billy Daniels 2x, Big Punching John Holman, Knocked out the very durable Alonzo Johnson in 1 round, Top Prospect Curley Lee, European Contender **** Richardson

The Miteff fight was an impressive one

"Cleveland (Big Cat) Williams, who shattered the title hopes of 7th ranked Alex Miteff with a 5th round TKO, set up a howl today for a shot at champion Floyd Patterson. If Williams ever looked as though he deserved a shot at the title, it was Tuesday night. He took command of the fight from Miteff from the start, opened a bad cut over his left eye in the 2nd, floored him for eight counts in the 3rd and 4th, and was beating him badly when referee Ernie Taylor mercifully ended it 1:32 deep into the 5th." -United Press International

A guy who goes 1-1 with Terrell is no world beater.

And to your broken record approach I say again: When a green Ernie Terrell is the only "name" on your ko/win list gtfo talking about how badass and feared you are when you fail every single time you step up after that. Its convenient to say he was so much better before he got shot but neither his record nor the films illustrate that. You can pretend Terrell wasnt green when they fought the first time but he was. He had never beaten anyone at that point, had only two fights away from chicago against nobodies, and was facing his first real contender in that guys backyard. Nevermind that Terrell wasnt exactly the best hw at any time in his career including at his peak so its damning Williams with faint praise to say he was so good because he stopped a green terrell. Furthermore, the second Terrell-Williams fight is on film. Neither guy looks good and Terrell won regardless of what the AP reported. And yes Terrell beat Folley the following year but he had also beaten Willuams by then, a pre bullet wound Williams and even then, against Williams, Foley, and Zech you can see hes still developing and still hadnt learned to use his height yet. But gid forbid we actually look at their fights, you guys would rather fantasize about what Williams MIGHT have done and how great Terrell must have been before he had even cut his teeth. Because the instant you start looking at actual footage and facts the Williams myth falls apart very quickly.

I've seen a few Williams fights. I see a quick handed guy with a big punch what do you see? To pretend Williams was the same fighter after he got shot is the height of spin.
Ali prior to there fight, said of him , " there isn't much left now".
