I'm not hung up on this 200+ pounds thing that most guys seem to be hung up on today. This is boxing, not weightlifting, we are talking about. Understand that this lack of awe for size over about 180 pounds is coming from a very large man, well over 200 pounds since about age 14, and I am still not in bad shape...even at my advanced age. Personally, I would say Floyd should be the favorite against anyone in this group.
I personally wouldn't favor him over: Tua, Ruddock or Witherspoon. I think those 3 are the clear favorites above. Legacy wise they simply can't compare and p4p Floyd is a better fighter than any of these but after watching a few of Patterson fights looking for a reason to give him the edge. I couldn't find any. Frankly the result I expect would be KO loss from all 3 fighters. Even money fights IMO are: Morrison, Shavers, Lyle and Weaver. They are all about as reliable as an American Car. But given the disparity in size and their more than respectable power this makes it a 50/50 proposition which is more than generous for Patterson. Morrison starts too fast, hits real hard has good speed and can get up off the floor to win. I give him the edge, but his chin is the only reason why its a pick em fight. Otherwise he'd be a clear favorite. Shavers's right hand is a major concern. While Patterson can certainly get to him early, I tend to think that a flush right hand would do the trick. And considering how Holmes, Ali (albeit an older version) and Norton were all tagged at one point, I find it hard to believe Patterson can evade it all night. It is possible and the tables can turn but this is a pick'em fight and that's giving Floyd the benefit of the doubt. Both Weaver and Lyle pack dynamite. Their equalizer is only a punch away. Can't discount them. Bruno and Briggs are the only fighters I'd feel comfortable picking Patterson over and even then come fight time I'd be nervous. His record against that lot would be 4-5 IMO.
Crushed? Not exactly..he was tortured in a sustained beating by Ali in '65, but not exactly crushed...a flurry of pitty-pat punches put the back-injured, physically outsized Patterson down briefly in the 6th for his only trip to the canvas, and Floyd was clearly hobbled by a back injury..he wasn't at this best..though he would have lost anyway even if he was. The rematch went somewhat better for Floyd, but it was an eye injury tko...not a "crushing" either.
Patterson can beat them all. I voted for him to be undefeated against these fighters but he can easily lose to Bruno, Witherspoon and Ruddock.
