http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7P3xZGB350 After watching Sr. - SRL, I came to the conclusion that Jr. can beat SRL. I'm guessing most people won't agree with me. But hey, this is just judgement from what I saw in this specific fight. Keep in mind I seen many FMJ fights, a handful of SRL fights and just one Sr. fight (this one). Let me first start off by saying Sr. fights very much like Jr. He does similar moves: - pull back right hand - duck to the right side to slip punches - similar shoulder roll - similar left to the body, left to the head - punches look very similar to Jr. at times BUT he misses a lot of the crucial aspects of what Jr. has. Some things that I saw. - Jr. has double the arsenal that Sr. has. Plus I feel Jr. is more athletic, a bit faster and stronger. - Many of the times, I saw SRL struggle with the boxing ability of Sr. BUT, when Sr. was in trouble he didn't use any of the defensive techniques Jr. so masterfully applies. - Sr. just stands there with a tight guard without any slipping, rolling or countering. I saw Leonard continuously throw right hooks, and Sr. does not respond at all. - He sometimes goes into the shoulder roll position, but Sr. does not roll away from the punches at all. Nor does he even try to counter. - FMJ would not stand there, he would slip punches with a lot of upper body movement and also use a lot of rolling. I look at Sr. and I could see his head is not as elusive and reactive as Jr's. But even with this disadvantage, Leonard had a hard time boxing Sr. on the outside. - When Sr. used his should roll right hand counter, it was effective. Jr. would be doing this all day. Plus his quick straight right hand then slip from the outside would do well if FMJ uses it. - Sr. does not throw any jabs to the body. FMJ uses this very very effectively. And for Leonard especially, I feel this would be very useful controlling the distance and breaking his game. - Sr. was also effective in the beginning rounds when he threw the lead left hook. Jr. has one of the best leaping left hooks in the game. I could see this shot being used very often with Leonard. - FMJ although very similar to Sr., the main thing that Jr. does that I believe is the key factor to win the fight is the counters. There were many positions where I saw Sr. go into a defensive mode and left Leonard very open. I envisioned and asked myself what Jr. will do in this position. Jr. will almost always counter unless Leonard was throwing ineffective punches. Much like letting Ndou just smother Mayweather with ineffective punches so he tires out. SRL will give him trouble though. -FMJ will have trouble with the flurries SRL throws. SRL will get in some sneaky shots. - SRL got in some good body shots on Sr. when he was in his shoulder roll defensive position. This can translate into effective body shots on FMJ because SRL is very accurate with his beautiful hooks to the body. - SRL uses very good head and foot movement. This will trouble Jr. from being as accurate as he usually is. The game plan for Mayweather: - "Box that mothafcka, you beat him easy if you box him" - constantly be throwing sharp shooters. Quick jabs and move. Quick jabs to the body. Leaping left hooks at the appropriate times. Quick sharp right hands. Basically pot shot him all day. - If Jr. reduces his punch output, that makes Leonard have an advantage of coming in and throwing his combinations. When he does get in, shoulder roll counter right hands all day. Just don't stay in there for too long. - Counters all day. Counters from the outside and counters from the inside. Counters will be key. FMJ UD SRL in a very competitive bout. EDIT*** haha wow this thread got a huge response. I knew the majority of the people wouldn't agree with me... But this is just a hypothetical match up. This was also meant for THIS version of SRL! and the 147 version of Mayweather.
1. It was Leonard's 14th pro fight, hadn't even won a title yet. Not the prime version. 2. He thrashed Sr. anyway. 3. Ugh. 4. No. 5. Hell no.
Senior is to Junior what a mirror is to a camcorder. But Junior still doesn't have a prayer here anyway.
Of course not, he was still green when he fought Duran two years later. :rasta SRL fighting Duran's fight is proof he was not prime.
You just hating on the new (better) generation. :smoke Jr. would be smashing SRL with pull counters and check hooks.... and other "stuff".
Floyd has the best chance here out of any of the 4 kings I'd pick Floyd over SRL if SRL didn't have that massive size advantage
Exactly. All Leonard had was size. If they were the same size, Money would smash him up even worse. :smoke
Floyd's dad is taller and bigger than he is. He's a natural welter. Floyd could win P4P, but not at any weight that Ray fought at.
I don't even math :huh I would really like to watch this fight though. What a joy it would be :thumbsup
He's basically saying Floyd @ 130 was as great as SRL @ 147. He was probably even more impressive and dominant, but then there's that whole opposition thing. Floyd's 130 comp was solid enough for me to call him the greatest there though.
