The difference between Jones then and now is his body. Before he fought Ruiz, he was untouchable. After the 25 lb weight loss in which muscle was added, he lost his ability to sustain his attack. His conditioning suffered because of going up and down in weight. The first Tarver fight is when Roy said he experienced getting tired in a fight for the first time ever in his life, and that by round 6 his body felt dead. He said only his will kept him up in that fight. The fatality of staying at 175 weakened his body even worse. At age 35, you can't go up and down in weight.

Speedy fighters usually are shot at the age of 35 coz their speed and reflexes are the first to go. Ali, Ray Leonard, Jones Jr... these are men i greatly admired but also sad to see them go by way of a beating because they just dont seem to know that their main skills that made them great are way gone.

I don't understand how people can see Roy's performance against Calzaghe and say the man is not shot. I didn't have a favorite going into this fight. thought he would be cool to see two superstars battle it out. But what I saw instead was a finished fighter. It reminded me of Leonard against Norris. You see everything gone; the reflexes, the accuracy, the speed was good but nothing comparable to that superhuman ability of before. There were times he threw and missed and lossed his balance and looked helpless in there. That is when a fighter is shot. The invinicible suddenly look helpless.

:rofl Only in Europe. Jones was 80% when he fought hopkins with one good hand. Lol. You euros act as if we are just NOW saying Roy was shot to ****. His whole comeback was unimpressive and not taken seriously by anyone. Fighting a 3 year retired Tito at 170 when Tito never fought above 160. This is not a spectacular win by Calzaghe. Getting a SD over bhop and beating Kessler and dominating Lacy is still his main brownie points.

I'm a New Yorker, first and foremost.

Secondly, unlike the rest of you, I haven't forgotten that Jones Jr was very competitive for the first five to seven rounds, which you wouldn't be against Calzaghe if you weren't capable in that ring.

Thirdly, I've seen Calzaghe break opponents far younger and far more "in their prime" down in the same fashion he did to Jones Jr. This is not the first fight where it was competitive early, with Joe even taking the worst of the first few rounds and then turning it around later because his opponent is too exhausted to fight against him.

But hell, do what you want, discredit it all you want, I don't really give a ****. This wasn't Prime Roy but this isn't Prime Calzaghe either.

Look, neither man was in their prime in this fight but Jones looked far worse than Cal. Jones has 3 years and more miles on his career than Cal, and that is all to it. I will be arguing hard for Cal if he appears old in his next fight or fights just like I am for Jones. Boxers careers on average they say lasts until you are about age 35. Of course we have exceptions as Foreman, Cal, Hop and others have shown. Cal can appear old in any fight. The shame of it is that fans...especially the ones new to the sport have forgotten how Jones and Cal fought in their prime. Had you seen how both fought in their prime, some of you probably wouldn't be saying the things you are saying about both men.
