In this case the winner WAS decided before the end, therefore the scorecards are IRRELEVANT.

Lennox Lewis beat Vitali Klitschko, and no amount of tears will ever change that fact.

Vitali clearly dominated Lewis, especially early.

 

No tears here, don't worry. Lewis chose to retire rather than face Vitali again for a heap of money. I don't blame him as Vitali was on the way up & Lewis was on the way out.

 

A regular KO is basically a stoppage due to injury as well. Just a different type of injury.

Bottom line - Byrd and Lennox took their medicine against Vitali and kept going. Vitali couldn't, therefore he lost.

Deal with it.

 

If a fighter beats another fighter, that's as conclusive as you can get.

 

I'd pick Vitali to win the rematch.

It wouldn't prove Vitali was better than Lennox, just that he was better than a near-40 year old Lennox.

That doesn't change the fact that Lennox beat Vitali when they fought.

Yes, he flat out quit against Byrd.

But against Lennox, there was no medicine or any of that crap. He took it all and the fight got stopped by a 3rd party. No one to blame or disparage.

You seem to be under the impression that I don't give full credit for Lewis' win over Vitali.

I give Lennox 100% credit for pulling out the win. He suffered through some early scares to injure Vitali with return fire. All legit, by a series of punches. Nothing to do with razor blades in his dredlocks or sandpaper in his gloves.

 

he dominated Round 2. Other than that, it was close. Vitali was only winning by one clear round and it was only half way through the fight, so it was hardly conclusive.

Either way, as I already stated, scorecards are meaningless if the fight does not go the distance.

I don't mean he couldn't take it mentally.

His body couldn't withstand Lennox's assault and therefore he was stopped.

That was a combination of Lennox's timing/accuracy (hitting the same spot over and over), and Vitali's weak defence (unable to defend the obvious target that he must have known Lennox would be aiming for)
