I have a memory that it was in the Mayweather vs Chavez fight but don't know why....is that it?:think
We have a winner. :good This was also the fight where Lampley said, "Hopkins, imposing his will and his skill". Don't know if this was the first time Lampley said, "Imposing his will and his skill" in a fight though. Probably not.
Yea! I was right woot. Everyone remembers. We knew it would be a candidate for fight year! We didn't know it would be a candidate for fight of the century.
His voice is synonymous with championship boxing. A fight w/o Lampley's voice simply is not the same. His dramatic inflection and his enthusiasm are major assets, HOW-EVA... one thing I can't stand about Jim Lampley is that he frequently calls punches that don't even land. Let's say that Manny Pacquiao lands a glancing right jab on Ricky Hatton's glove, Lampley's call would be something like this..."a HUGE left hook from Manny Pacquiao!" That little peeve aside, Lampley's the man!
I agree but you also gotta know he's watching it ringside. A lot of the time his angle makes it look likes it a big punch when nothing landed. Notice the reason that some fights where two judges has it exactly the same one judge has a it a round or 2 off. That's why I think they should have the refs watching the fight in a seperate room on big TVs.
That is so true. As a play by play man, he's alright but his value is as a set up man. As soon as the show starts, he perfectly presents and sets everything up whether that's posing questions to his commentators.
My only problem with Lampley is his blatant sack swinging, but that aside, an excellent caller of the action.
I think Jim's great, and him teamed with Merchant and Steward is the best team in broadcast boxing. Papa, Kellerman, and Lewis is amatuer hour.
He's biaised like all the HBO crew, but I agree that when he leaves we will miss him (Merchant too). Imagine in 5-6 years it's gonna be Papa & Kellerman, boxing will die for sure...
