I think he's pretty humorous myself, once I figured he was kidding. Check out this selection of ringsider quotes:
The whole idea of the first match being a one-punch KO is a crock. Foreman was tenderizing Moorer fairly well with that pole-ax jab. Moorer was ready to go when George lowered the curtains. Watch the last few rounds closely and you can see it.
Actually I said it when the fight was made.....the guy down at the corner tavern was a big Mike Moorer fan. I told him George would KO him. He didn't believe me.....it cost him a $20.:good One of my finer pick'em moments. Moorer.....frick'n south paw.... Doesn't deserve to be the HW champ.
Actually Foreman and Holmes got paid a few million, the fight was cancelled, and they kept the money.
I agree, it wasn't just the one punch out of the blue. Foreman was finding his range and upping the pace. Just like he upped the pace against a tiring Holyfield too. The commentators were saying Moorer needs to be careful, he's shipping too many and doesn't want to catch one flush, and Foreman bamboozled him with the left jab and hook, then drop in the right and it was all over. One punch ended it, but it wasn't completely out of the blue or against the way the tide of the fight was going. Atlas was looking concerned in there for a reason.
Atlas was looking concerned because Moorer was getting fooled by how easy the fight was and started to move in the direction George wanted him to go. Atlas kept telling him to move away from Georges righthand because George was definitely trying to set him up for it and Moorer didnt listen because he wasnt getting hurt when George landed. It was just pure laziness and stupidity on Moorers part, because it took more effort and concentration to move away from where George was trying to steer him. As far as being an out of the blue shot, no it wasnt, George was looking for it the entire fight and landed that same right a couple times just missed the mark. In fact thats all he was looking for, but, it wasnt until the last couple of rounds that Moorer started fighting stupid and gave George the chances.
George also has that trick of leaving his giant left paw in front of his opponent's eyes and slipping in the right almost on a half beat behind it, pulling the trigger on the right before the left is retracted. Good night to whomever stays around for that second beat.
I thought Foreman's 10th round display was utterly AWESOME and CHARGED!!!! Foreman was age 45, tired and swollen when he came out blazing in round 10 to KO Moorer.... Foreman landed some serious drum-sticks on Moorer's head and body...... Never again did Foreman ever display that intensity in a fight before retiring after getting shafted against Shannon Briggs in Nov. 1997........... MR.BILL
Gonna go with Moorer but the old man might still be in his head and if he comes out all cautious I think Foreman KOs him again in less rounds
I guess this thread got bumped? I agree with a few post before that George probably Knocks him out again. Why wouldn't he? He took what Moorer had to give and ultimately baiting him in to one of the sweetest KO in the HW division has seen. I dont think it's a big mystery here. . He set Moorer up , why wouldn't he do it again? Big G KO again imo
I think a rematch would have Moorer winning on points. He now has experience (knowledge) of what can happen. On the other side, Foreman would set new traps. Whoever implemented his gameplan better would win. There is no way that Moorer would win the rematch by knockout, or Foreman on points. So fights similar to the first, except I think Moorer's game plan would have lasted two rounds longer, and Moorer would have won on points.
