Found this rare sparring video (De La Hoya - Chavez)

Nice defensive waist movement toward that end of that footage by Chavez......he slipped a barrage of DLH fast imcoming......

If this was Chavez getting ready for Taylor, I think its plain to see Chavez' goal in this sparring was to play defense against a fighter with fast incoming.

......as always, Chavez was parrying most of DLH's shots coming in.......

......people like to look at sparring footage and try to analyze how a real fight between them would go.....

.....you cant do that because we're not prevy to know what the goal was for Chavez that day in sparring with DLH.....like I said earlier, it looked very much to me that Chavez wanted to see and parry fast incoming, the type of fast incoming that Meldrick Taylor was going to unleach on Chavez.

You guys really believe that a prime Chavez was going to unleach fury on a young DLH in a sparring session????


......as for the large gloves DLH is wearing, what did you guys expect of a fighter preparing for Meldrick Taylor.
.....that Chavez would instruct DLH to wear 10oz gloves and risk getting cut when Chavez is preparing for the biggest fight of his life????

It did'nt even have to be the Taylor fight, if you have an upcoming fight, you certainly dont want to risk getting cut, especially with the type fast hooks a young DLH was capable of throwing.


Loved those defensive moves by Chavez in that video though!:yep

 

It doesn't really matter what Chavez was trying to do in that sparring session and whether or not he or Oscar was having success. We all know what happened when they met up for a real fight
