I suspect Hearn/Joshua will fight Ngannou 9-12 months from now 1. Big money fight + "low risk" (Hearn/Joshua have no other “superfights” on the horizon in light of Wilder’s loss to Parker) 2. Try to pressure Fury to fight Joshua if Joshua beats Ngannou in style and winning well would make Joshua look better than Fury (Joshua-Wallin may have been part of this) 3. "Steal" the Ngannou fight from Fury, with the demand for Fury-Ngannou 2 diminishing massively if Joshua KO's Ngannou
No. AJ will fight Hrgovic next, then the winner of Usyk v Fury. If Usyk wins, he'll probably chase a different opponent such as Dubois, Joyce or Parker.
Fury-Usyk is apparently a two fight deal, tying them up for 2024. Will Joshua have just one fight until 2025?
For me, it was bigger picture context about the top of the heavyweight division. Fury has created a mess by not fighting his main rivals. Part of this included him taking an unnecessary fight vs Ngannou. Fury underperformed and is declining steeply. It legitimized Ngannou for another top level fight which he didn't really deserve. No disrespect to Francis, but I think these fights have been an unecessary distraction. The gate was opened by Fury. He has been dreadful for our sport over the last three years. I think he's finished at the top level - and he knows it. Joshua is not the second coming of Lennox Lewis. But he's been on a journey. And he's a very credible fighter. Let's hope he - and Usyk - who try to do things 'the right way ' can work in tandem to rid us of Fury and restore some honour to the game.
Joshua knocked out a boxer competing in his 2nd fight, not a lot to learn there really. Agree re Fury, he disgraced himself and the sport, AJ gave it back some integrity.
That the Fury fight really flattered Ngannou. Fury was truly dreadful in that first fight, if it wasn't for his powers of recovery, he would of probably gotten KO'ed early he was so poor in that fight. That version of Fury loses to a lot of the top heavyweights which is pretty shocking. I really didn't bother doing a proper breakdown of styles when predicting Joshua/Ngannou like I do with most fights, simply because the fight didn't interest me at all. Having watched the fight we saw Ngannou is still a novice in boxing terms and Joshua did what he should do when in the ring with a novice. Hopefully Ngannou takes his millions and retires or goes fight a youtuber or something, him being in the division is a distraction and prevented better match ups taking place.
AJ is a very very good fighter. Just obliterated the guy who was hunting Fury down for 10 rounds and put him into full panic mode This content is protected Its been a bit of a tradition for AJ to go out and dominate the dudes who give Fury a lot of trouble and remind us how much more talented he is than Fury.
I learnt my gut instinct was right and the Fury fight indicated how far Fury has fallen rather than any kind of indication about NGannou being any good.
