Still, Edgar's size isn't going to factor in for the judges when they are scoring the fight. When the match starts it's A against B and on that particular night B (Hendo) won via damaging blows. The upkick was huge. That might've been the deciding factor. I thought the score cards would be closer but the decision is fine. Fight could've gone either way. I was rooting for Hendo but if Frankie had won I would've been ok with it just as long as we see a rematch which will likely happen since it was a competitive fight. If Edgar has a problem fighting guys who are seemingly bigger than him he can always move down to fight Jose Aldo. Sounds easy enough, right?
Franke was massively outsized. He needs to move to 145. Benson wouldn't even say how much weight he cut. You'd have to guess in the 20 pound region. Frankie won the 1st and 5th but 2, 3 and 4 are debatable. He outstruck and got the takedowns BUT the aggression and the damage was from Hendo. Frankie face was busted up, he took a huge kick, a deep guillotine and other than the 5th round he didn't look to be putting enough pop on his shots to shake Hendo. Frankie thought he was winning and got it wrong strategically because of it.
He'd run into the same issue versus Aldo, who is actually considerably larger than he is as well. I don't think that his size determined the outcome though. It's not like Henderson manhandled him. Edgar had a more solid base throughout the fight.
You and nobody else. Edgar has 1 fight at 145 and that's Aldo, that's why he doesn't want to move down. He has wins over alot of top guys at 155 why would he go down to fight a guy at 145 who might not even be in the top 10? Edgar lost a close UD over the new champ, that still means he's a player at LW.
Hominick is only one fight separated from giving Aldo his toughest fight in years, and yet he isn't a worthy test from Edgar at 145? Yeah, he just got flash KO'd and he'd need to win his next fight in April, but I think he would be a good first fight at 145 for Edgar. I don't like guys getting immediate title shots in new divisions.
So you think Edgar would go from fighting Penn,Maynard and Benson to fighting a contender in a class lower?
Yes. I think it would be an insult to the other top 145ers if Edgar got an immediate title shot because he is the former LW champion. He should at least have to have one win at the weightless he would be fighting for the title in.
I would agree if a guy jumps up to fight in a new weight class, like if GSP went to MW he should have to beat Sonnen or Belfort to proove he belongs there. but do you think Anderson should have to fight a contender before fighting GSP should he move down? Not really.... The only way Edgar even considers oing down would be to fight Aldo and I don't even think he is interested in that right now. His hands are full at LW.
Someone like Anderson or GSP is a different circumstance, but even with them I would prefer a primer against a contender before a title shot.
Edgar was the champ and was busier. No doubt he was damaged more, but I think its due to his weak scar tissue. I score who controlled the rounds and who was busier. Frankie a G. He was tossing Bendo(giant looking compared to him) around like a salad.
3-2 for Bendo. I don't see how people can possibly cry robbery, even with that term being ran into the ground as of late.
Looks like you are wrong, completely. http://bjpenn.com/mmanews/2012/02/2...to-compustrike-stats-henderson-won-15696.html
