I actually see a Khan stoppage in the first half of the fight, probably through bodyshots since rios will get hurt with them early and unlike maidana i belive rios is too thick to begin blocking them. However I think Khan really needs to go to 147 after this one, he's massive at 140 now, and if he hangs around too long hes going to have to cut too much to make the weight and then..... well you know whats likely to happen
Anyone got the quote of what Roach said? or the thread title exactly what he said. I totally understand why Roach feels that way. I need to watch the Murray fight, Saw 2 rounds other day and Rios didn't do much but Murray's tactics were do or die.
I see this as a ploy by Roach to get Khan in with a credible opponent who he perceives Khan holds advantages over stylistically. He's just using the Parkinson's thing to legitimize it. Acosta stood in-front of Rios for too long and presented him with too much of a stationary target to hit. Even Peterson languished inside too much with him when he should of been keeping it long. Khan would probably use movement to offset Rios's aggression, and there is only one winner from range when he creates some distance, so in theory he should be able to keep it long, keep turning Rios, and use his speed to get off first. Khan probably has the stamina to maintain this kind of tempo though. Sure Rios might get inside and exploit his lack of inside game, but would he be able to keep Khan still for long to slow him down significantly? Cause I dont see Rios as having significant power. Sure Rios can bang a bit, but enough to stop a fighter in his tracks and change the complexion of a fight? Its also worth noting that Rios has been hurt to the body in the past, so you know Roach would have Khan digging him to the body. If Khan fought a disciplined fight, was in-shape, tied up on the inside, I dont see why he wouldn't decision Rios. I say I see Rios needing to keep you still for long to have significant impact, or engaging him more on the inside
But in the judah fight i belive he managed to block/avoid many uppercut. I think Khan gassed in the maidana fight due to trying to ko maidana early and this lead to him getting hit with many punches later. TBF Khan could have fought a more shoe shine type fight, and pitter pattered his way to a wide points win (imo he only lost 3 rounds max anyways) but he went out to put on a show. In a rematch bet your house khan would stink the joint out and win a whitewash points decision, he certainly wouldnt gas out, stand there like a zombie and eat maidanas crude uppercuts late in the fight
Yes. That's the real reason Khan ran into trouble in that fight. When Khan would get off he would hold his feet for too long because he was looking to hurt Maidana, and so Maidana was able to walk through his punches at times and step right back up to him when he was pulling out, and because he'd held his feet for too long, he would be pulling out with too much weight on his heels trying to get away fast, but because his weight was on his heels too much, he wasn't in a position to counter effectively when Maidana would come back at him, and this was a result of him trying to hold his feet for too long looking for power. In the build up to the fight all the vibes I was getting was that they felt they were gonna KO Maidana.
I agree Flea, Maidana is as strong as Rios If not stronger that cuts the ring down better and is genuinely more well rounded then Rios, Maidana is far from special himself but on the whole a lot better, IMO.
I agree, I dont see really anything fantastic about Rios except he dwarfs the rest of his division, at 140 he will be nothing special at all imo and eventually he will have to go up to 147 where he will be a whipping boy. His team just want to grab a payday before he gets clowned
