Well, personally I dont care about his place in the ATG standings.

They can take him out of the top 100 for all I care.

I never followed his career to see him reach the peak of boxing's mythical Mt.Olympus.

I followed his fights because he always puts on a great show, and he makes every Filipino all over the world, proud of their country and their people.

And I'm kinda used to all the nitpicking now. People can find faults and flaws in MP's career win-loss records. They wont stop.

They are very different trainers, for sure.

I think when Roach says those things against FMJ, he's wearing his "matchmaker" cap, and not his "trainer" cap.

We've all heard Roach say before that an FMJ-MP fight would be "boring" even if they win, and he's not the best match up for MP.

Now he says that FMJ is basically washed up. I really feel this is some sort of a set up to bait Floyd in the near future.

MP doesnt have much time left in his career, a couple more fights, and that's it.

I know what you're talking about and I can understand that it annoys you. My point was just that even though Roach may tell it like he sees it, it would be better to keep his mouth shut at the moment.

    PS: Mt. Olympus isn't mythical!

Blah blah blah, watch Cotto at 140, and watch him at 147. Tell me he is the same fighter. Watch fights.

I think roach is just playing mind games, It's like saying to their opponents that whatever training you do, you can't win against us! The same tactic he used against DLH (can't pull the trigger) and we all know what happened. It may be just a ploy to let team cotto think, and hoping to disrupt their game plan. It's up to cotto if he'll be affected by such remark, if thus, then team pac already have the advantage going into the battle.

    :D

Anyway, I don't think MP will truly be accepted by the boxing purists.

He fights "ugly", he's not a textbook, true boxer and he doesnt seem to have enough charisma or is cool enough for the international boxing fans.

MP's all ours (the whole Philippines) if they dont like him. It's OK.

I can see the haters have gotten into you. Stay tough man! Pacquiao is an ATG and everyone should acknowledge that, even those that don't like him.

OK, I've seen this exact same sentence a couple more times and I don't understand it. How come a 30 year old boxer who's in his prime, has just two more fights left? I don't get this, help me out here.

Every great fighter that ever lived has gone through naysayers nitpicking their accomplishments.

You name them, Ali, Duran, Leonard, Holyfield, Chavez, etc.......

Its not just a thing done to Pac.......the higher a platue a fighter reaches, the more that others will bark to bring him down.

Most of us are guitly of it in some way........but at the end of it, I'm sure that with Pacquiao's resume the way it stands, his countrymen will have nothing but to be proud of it and Pacquiao, no matter what happens from here to the end of it.
    Absolutely my friend!:good

Pacquiao been fighting for almost 15 years and he has 54 fights total... Pacquiao deserves to retire if he wishes to... He gave us too many exciting fights over the years... Thanks to PAC...

Bro, dont believe that. At least from the latino's here where I live in Los Angeles. There were almost as many Mexicans rooting for Pacquiao to beat JMM!

I'm serious, Mexican's love Manny Pacquiao......and he solidified that standing when he gave the hated Oscar Delahoya the beatdown of his life!:yep

........and on the flipside of it......you cant get more textbook than JMM, and just look at how much he's disrespected.

To me, ATG lists are not objective and I wont bother trying to squeeze MP in there.

I just know that he always gives a great, entertaining show, win or lose, and he fights great fighters and his fights always feature our national anthem and our national flag, all over the world.

It may seem insignificant, but that means a lot to us. We've never won a gold medal in the olympics, and Filipinos all over the world only get to see our flag proudly flying and our anthem sung out loud, watched by millions around the world when Manny fights.

We are 7,100 different islands, with dozens of different regions, dialects and customs. We are not a very closely knit together country. Very regional.

But when MP fights, 90 million Filipinos cheer for one fighter, and for one another.

I feel like we've won, just listening to our anthem.

He wants to retire while he's healthy and strong. He's amassed enough earnings to last a couple of lifetimes.

He wants to run for congress next year.

I asked you that because the way some others have put it, it sounded like Pac wouldn't be able to fight on with success for some more years and I was like "wtf are they talking about, this guy could fight on for at least two more years". But if it is his own wish to retire now, sure. I understand it and have no problem with that.

thats because he was not fighting guys like Judah, Mosely, Margarito and Clottey. He was still being carefully matched at 140, in his early 20's as developing fighter. He fights the Big fights now, with every style of matchup included. Look at his latest 6 fights and now pac? Many different styles, and does not try to carefully match himself. Those days are over. (Exception a well deserved tuneup before Clottey)
