A low rent version of an amazing fight = still pretty damn good.

It's lower rent because it's a lower skill level. Unless you seriously want to take the position that Miguel Roman and Antonio Escalante exhibit better defense (or offense, for that matter) than Vazquez, Marquez, Morales, or Barrera?

Stop assuming that anything short of getting carried away with enthusiasm equates to insulting or disrespecting these guys. They put on a hell of a show. Just ****ing bask in it, and if you don't like that I scoffed at the idea of premature FOTY cries, then just ignore it.

No, I only see a man backpeddling from his initial statement which triggered this argument in the first place. Perhaps you should just own up to what you initially said and admit that you believe Escalante-Roman to be low rent. If you think this fight was somehow "less skilled" than the others you mentioned, you're quite simply an idiot. There was nothing "less" about this fight tonight.

 

If Escalante skews Freudian in his tastes, and Mrs. E looks anything like his wife Maria...well send up some more champagne and a do not disturb tag. :hey

It isn't because I'm not a nice guy and open to reason. It's because the guys who actually win those polls are the ones who, when confronted with epic dumb****s, say "nah, isn't worth it..." and walk away.

Mate it took Escalante 7 rounds to realise roman has a chin i'll hit him down stairs. He didn't even continue to work the body even though Roman give him his biggest break in the 7th. If that was a fighter like MAB or JMM or someone on the same level this fight would of been over in 5 rounds easily.

 

This was a great fight regardless of anyone's opinions of the skills involved.

If the names of the fighters had been well known, ESB would be crashing all night cause everyone and their mother would be here trying to post about the FOTY candidate!.

Props to Roman and Escalante for putting on an exciting fight.

 

They've known each other for a long time and they each knew very well what the other brought to the ring!

 

And what both brought to the ring was a ton of heart, good conditioning, and some vicious punch sequences. That should really be the focus of this thread (rather than people picking apart things that went over their heads about keeping the accolades in perspective and within reason).

An FNF worth celebrating? Yes, absolutely.

Equating it, in the fervor of such celebration, to some of the very greatest fights in the sport's history? Out of line. And that has nothing to do with them not being "big names".

Temperance. Moderation. That's all.
