I am starting to warm to Froch a bit, I can see a lot of guys beating him (Dawson, Bhop, GGG and of course Ward) and he has been thoroughly outboxed a few times (Dawson, Taylor and I thought Dirrell) but he keeps putting up the Ws so it is hard to knock him. I have a pretty solid top 8 and bunch of guys on the bubble for the last 2, Froch may have firmed up a spot last night in the bottom two . . . I will keep y'all posted.
Robert Marroquin a cab driver? You are aware that he defeated both Gary Russell, Jr. and Adrien Broner in the amateurs, right? Oh, I know, that is only the amateurs. Still, it counts for something. Marroquin has had a nice start in the pros and was a very good opponent. Ramos was the #2 jr. featherweight in the world when Rigo destroyed him. That too, must count for something. Teon Kennedy was an opponent, period. Canelo has made a career of fighting "opponents". Rigondeaux defeated and outclassed the World Jr. Featherweight Champion and the #5 pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Has Canelo ever even fought anyone in the top ten pound-for-pound? I'll answer that, no. Did Canelo ever defeat a legitimate world champion? No. He defeated the #3 contender, thus making him the legitimate champion. You just can't compare the two. Canelo beating Trout, while a fine victory, is not in the league of Rigo's domination of Donaire. Shane Mosley has long been done as a top fighter. Oh, he came back and won a close one over Cano after losing all of his fights since 2009. Big deal! He looked old in that fight too. I am not saying that Canelo's win over Mosley means nothing. What it was, however, was a good win over an old fighter, period. I need to rethink what I know about boxing? I am a lifelong fan and historian of the sweet science. I assure you my knowledge of the history of this sport is an ocean compared to your little river of knowledge. Pound-for-pound lists are subjective, we all know that. I have Canelo at #12 currently. I am a big fan of him and picked him to win a decision over Trout. So, I am, in no way discrediting Canelo. I am just being honest about his career and the fact that he has only really beaten two top jr. middleweights and they were #4 ranked Ryan Rhodes and #3 ranked Austin Trout. Good wins, but not even comparable to Rigondeaux's victory over Donaire.
He looked better than he has in a long time in his last fight vs. JMM, and got caught with something big when he was beating JMM who is a solid top5 p4p. I don't think he should be outside the list because he lost to a fellow p4p, styles makes fights and Pacquiao should still be up there, now he might fall off with another loss to someone like Rios, but that's about it.
I thought he looked like ass in the Bradley and Marquez 3rd bout, and was gifted a decision. Knowing he tried cherrypicking Marquez after seeing him struggle with Katsidis, I cant have him there. Maybe #10, but that would mean leaving out Froch and I just can't at the moment
He beat Bradley, everyone knows that. He lost to Marquez the third fight, I'd agree with that, but Marquez is a solid p4p fighter who gives him fits stylistically, and in their fourth bout Pacquiao had the most success against JMM. Styles make fights, and JMM gives him fits everytime out.
Look at Manny's resume the past 3 years. It's dire, and he was KTFO! How can he be P4P getting stretched?! Jones was dropped immediately when Tarver stretched him I'm quite sure. Toney when Jones dominated him too.
P4P means the best fighters in boxing regardless of weight. if p4p means who would win if all the same size then would wladimir klitschko even be heavy weight champ if losing his size advantage?
I had Froch in the top ten before last night. It seems obvious to me that he deserves to be in there.
