And nor is is really Scandinavian! Most Fins (as Swedes, Danish or Norweigans) I've met would say it isn't. If we're talking Nordic countries, that's another matter! Sorry to be a pedantic *****! I just don't see the fuss and bother either. Going to the States makes no sense for the fans, going to a country that is on the same continent as both fighters, even if it happens to be on the northern half where one fighter lost, does make sense. Fat Mick doesn't half know how to screw his fighter and the fans about, but I would reckon that any fight fan looking to make a weekend of it would have a bloody great time out there that time of year - it's beautiful. And take the other half for a pre-Christmas getaway...or am I being an under the thumb ***** and do you all bugger off as and when you choose?!
Well, I was making a small point that it may have a psychological impact, but then again it might not. Anyway, you guys can say it's a load a shite all day long, but the fact is, Finland, just like Denmark, is a part of Scandinavia and all the posts in the world on here is not going to change that. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it.:hat 'the countries of N Europe, esp considered as a cultural unit' http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Scandinavia
This is true and we would love to see Froch - AA here in Helsinki. It would probably be the greatest fight in decades (Olli Mäki - Davey Moore was here in 1960 or something and drew tens of thousands of spectators). I was in Manchester last fall to see Matthew Macklin vs Amin Asikainen and from that I can say that our pub-culture is pretty similar (noisy, good-hearted people getting drunk) and that you would be pleased of the facilities in Hartwall Arena (restaurants, pubs etc). I´m really looking forward to see this fight and hundreds of brits making noise and raise the atmosphere.
Anyway, lets just hope it takes place, no matter where it is going to be. The Dirrell vs Ward fight has turned into a complete farce, with arguments over where it should be and it's ever looking like it might never happen.
Of course Finland is in Scandinavia but we´re far from danes. For example nobody speaks danish but everybody speaks english. If you think that this is home territory for AA you´re wrong. We were in war against Soviet Union and there are still strong hate against russians with many Finns (it´s called ryssäviha in finnish). It´s clear that Ireland would suit Froch better (just like mainland Europe would be fine for AA) but Finland is still very much neutral zone for both AA and Froch.
I just made the point that Froch's last fight, one that he clearly hasn't really come to terms with yet, the place of his only ever defeat, was in scandinavia and he'd being going straight back there for this fight, that's all. If people wish to say that Finland is grossly different from Denmark, then fine, I'm OK with that. Let's just hope that the fight takes place.
Ok - I get your point but Finland is still as neutral as it gets for this fight. Finland is in Scandinavia - true- but Denmark is in mainland Europe same as Monaco. There´s as much in common with danes and french as there is with danes and finns. I agree that Monaco is far more better place when it comes with climate and scenery but boxing-wise it´s neutral. Ok I admit I little hyped about this megafight possibly coming to my hometown.
No problem, I take your points, they are very valid ones. As far as getting excited about this fight coming to your home town goes, that's fully understandable, I think anyone would love this fight on their doorstep.
