He did look a little nervous. Given that it was his first defence, away from home against a top opponent and not a coconut I can cut him some slack, but I know he can perform better. But he still has to prove he belongs up there. Another defence against a top ranked guy should tell us.
Why all the critisism..... this was his first title defence, his first fight in the U.S, his first World Class opponent.... of course he would be a little nervous, he laid EVERYTHING on the line. And remember this is only his 25th pro fight.... he could have easily got a polish plumberto come over to Nottingham ala JC .... but I'm glad to say those days seem to over for British boxing
good call.what do you all want him to do,he won, against a v good yank FFSatsch no where near as bad as woods,he were ****ing terrible against tarver
Kessler seems to be KO'ing everyone, but not fighting anyone. Froch has just claimed a biggish scalp victory in the states, which is what Kessler was supposed to be doing. Taylor's counter punching would give many people trouble, he got the better of Hopkins twice.
He's always suffered from nerves more than most although all fighters suffer (and if they don't they're crazy). Fortunately he has a great chin and is willing to fight back when hit rather than going into a shell or settling for a points defeat like Woods. The fact that he did so in such an amazing way and dramatic way, away from home, first big fight in US, against top quality opposition, having been knocked down and while suffering severe nerves mean extra props from me.
I think Froch is on the same sort of level of Clinton Woods overrall. I do not see a second coming of Joe Calzaghe. Take him for what he is, an entertaining fighter...who isnt as slick as he thinks he is..Im not a fan of Froch directly but ill definately be watching all of his fights as they are value for money it seems..
if froch keeps abandoning a disciplined fight plan, he could still keep winning in the manner than julian jackson or gerald mcclellan did. woods doesn't have that determination in a hostile situation. he totally switched off vs tarver. in terms of "intangible" qualities, and power, Froch is way above Clinton. i think froch has to use his long jab, has to work the body, set up uppercuts inside. against pascal, froch did do some nice boxing, when he pushed pascal back with jabs, body shots. he got into a groove where he moved his head a bit. found that smoothness and got to a point where he was physically dominating...then went back to wild slugging. froch has the ability but must use it. naz also went over to america as "only" a puncher and also took far too many shots. in a nutshell, froch got the win. that was what mattered. now he must mature with his tactics.
This pretty much sums up what i was thinking i.e. "this was his first title defence, his first fight in the U.S, his first World Class opponent.... of course he would be a little nervous, he laid EVERYTHING on the line" also i think because he had it all on the line and all week he was worrying that no british tv was publisizing the event it got to him even more i know that i would be nervous as hell if i went over to the states fighting a good fighter for my belt and had everything to lose with no british tv showing it live and pissed off. i wouldnt even be thinking about taylor id be thinking britain hated me and i had no fans or appreciation
