Getting knocked down and battered and outboxed was Froch's plan all along. He knew Groves would eventually punch himself out, then Froch could move in for the kill.

Before the fight Froch had carefully studied Rumble in the Jungle and decided to adapt a similar tactic, block punches with his face until Groves was too tired to defend himself. In the 9th round Froch unleashed a 5-punch combination that caused a dead-tired Groves Foreman to stumble towards the ropes. The referee had no choice but to stop the fight.

I agree that Froch won the fight, I think Groves threw it away by trading too much. I still think Froch should fight him again though as there are questions, for one it looks like Groves can adjust and kick his arse easily in a rematch, Carl needs to disprove that. this is from someone that thinks Carl won, many others dont even think he did fairly, so in order to stop the questions he has to give the rematch, or forever be asked why he ducked Groves.

I just can't believe that people are already convincing themselves that that was not a bad stoppage. It's only been a week.

If Groves wasn't gassed out, then why was he stumbling about with no guard whatsoever, on jelly legs? He was all over the place while Froch was stalking him punching with both hands?

If both men were fading (as you say) then why was Froch the one punching and Groves the one with his guard down, not hitting back, completely overwhelmed?

What Groves should have done was hug Froch like crazy, and take a tactical knee to weather the storm. But he is simply too inexperienced and this fight showed that he's not ready to hang at the elite level yet. His boxing ability is great, his ring IQ is lacking and we can hope he can improve that with more experience. This fight alone should have taught him more than his entire previous career.

Yeah Froch did win by TKO, but the stoppage was far too early in a world title fight where the fighter in trouble had dominated the fight and was unbeaten. The win is not really one Froch can be proud of, the rematch is needed to prove that he can actually beat Groves conclusively. I think Groves wins the rematch though.

"world title fight" is a bit rich
still, it was worth something and the stoppage was definitely too early

That's about the time these opinions come out. It's like with clear robberies for all to see wich suddenly aren't robberies according to the fighter's fans.
It's the time they need for the storm to settle and come up with some bullsh-t theories why "their" fighter "deserved" the bogus win.

Impossible to know if Groves was too gassed out or if Froch would have finished him, that's exactly why a rematch IS needed.

OP says Groves fought stupid well so did Froch. He got punched in the face a lot and should have been way behind on the scorecards. If Groves knew the ref was going to jump in as soon as he took a few punches, he probably wouldn't have engaged so much.

Anyone who doesn't demand a rematch has an agenda. It's obvious to all neutrals that an immediate rematch is needed.

no they aren't, not if boxing is ever going to be credible again
the only world champions in recent years at SMW are joe calzaghe and andre ward
no matter what carl froch or anyone else tries to tell you, anything else is a just a paper trinket which helps negotiate fights - nothing more

By Groves' own admission he was going for a clinch when the referee jumped him and dragged him away. He wasn't given the chance to try to hang on and see out that period of aggression from Froch. The Referee inserted himself while the two were still trading and Groves was attempting to clinch to gain himself a few seconds to recover, and in the process opened up Groves so Froch could take a free at his ribs.

Well, I'd make a difference between. Froch fought stupid but he can't fight any better. He lacks the skill. Groves has the skill, but still chose to box stupid. He gave the fight away because he was dumb (or lets call it lacked the experience), not because he lacked the skill.
