Sky sports refused to show or publish the punch stats for the first time in living memory, thats how bad Froch was getting outlanded.
Was it Jim Watt doing the punch stats ? Turn the sound off and watch the fight again, if the Punch stats are anything like Watts commentary, then there a ****in mile off.
Froch showed us nothing new, he has always been slow, blocked punches with his face and relied on his only good asset, his chin. But Groves schooled him for nearly all the fight, had Froch hurt in every round, was winning comfortably and he could of gone on to stop Froch or win on points. Talking about a warrior, did you see Groves (by himself) stare down Froch and his whole team of about 14 guys, then came out in round one taking the centre of the ring. He out muscled Froch aswell as completely out boxing him. After the bell Froch acted like a *****, not shaking the hand of Groves and not giving Groves much credit for the way he destroyed him in the ring. Froch has a massive ego and he actually thinks he deserved to win this fight, lost a lot of respect for him. Groves deserves the rematch, lets see if the 'warrior' Froch takes it.
Spot on my thoughts exactly. Even if the Ref hadn't stopped it at that point, once Groves started to stumble and sag, he may or may not have hit the deck but he was clearly off his rockers for a moment. Froch would have pounced, and another flush shot would have brought the ref in. A tad premature, but even if it went on, Ref would wave it off after one more assault as Groves was rockin and rollin. This is Froch we are talking about. He may not be the quickest, and surely lacks boxing ability, but we all bloody know what he can do when he has you wounded. Not sure why people are playing dumb. Froch had three and a half rounds to get the job done against a tiring and hurt, unsteady Groves. Think about that for a moment.
Groves had 11 rounds to finish Froch after hurting him in the 1st and it didn't happen. No guarantee Froch could have got it done in 3 and a bit.
Well he's proving himself a joke now by ducking the rematch. And his pathetic comments post fight. And personally I hate the "warrior" tag being thrown around. Look he's been blessed by a great chin so its very hard to put his lights out. Does that make him more of a "warrior" than someone who gets put out easier just because he wasn't born with such a rock hard mandible? Doesn't really makes sense does it. Most elite boxers soak up high levels of punishment without batting an eye and most would never consider quitting, they are all warriors.
the thing is tho Froch has a great chin and that kept him in the fight, other boxers would've stayed on the mat. Second is that Froch is a great finisheronce he has you hurt. It was a great fight by groves but it wasn't enough. Froch is just that type of fighter that slowly wears you down . People keep mentioning that groves was faster and he could have outboxed Froch for the last 3 rounds but almost all his previous opponents have been faster and haven't been able to outbox them. If a rematch happened I can honestly say I would put my money on Froch for a similar outcome
I think the bolded is massively blown out of proportion. He's finished Taylor who my grandma could have finished at that point, Bute who has no chin, Andrade did the same thing to Bute and some bums. There have been many guys he couldn't finish such as Kessler x2, Pascal and Dirrell. Groves might also have a good chin/survival skill but the ref dived in before we could find out. About Froch' chin - Yes he has a terrific chin but we know this because he has been given the opportunity to prove it. If as soon as Froch got hurt the refs always stepped in and stopped the fight, we wouldn't know if Froch has a chin or not. The problem is the ref jumped in and a few people are defending that because of these perceptions (Froch always gets stronger and finishes guys). The opinion is biased because of that. The realistic and unbiased reality is the fight was stopped prematurely and there is just as much chance that Groves would have survived as there is he would have been KO'd. It could have been enough for Groves, we'll never know and as I said above Froch doesn't always wear you down enough to win. But some have. Ward, Kessler and arguably Dirrell. You can't just assume Froch always will/would have won. And many would bet on Groves.
He is one of the toughest fighters out there bar none. No one can take that away from him. I just think the toll has been taken and he is on a serious slide downward. Groves beat him up.
I agree with you on some things, but the only way to know who the better man is is for a rematch to happen so lets hope it does
