Yeah, that's basically what I've been saying. The only way to know is if the ref had let the fight come to a proper conclusion or a rematch.

Slightly arse licking Froch a bit. But agree with most of the post. People coming on here questioning Froch and what he's done in his career are fueled with hatred and jealously.

Here's an example of why Froch is getting hate currently: http://www.espn.co.uk/boxing/sport/story/261147.html

Froch told Boxing News : "I don't think I need to fight George Groves again to prove anything because he [was an] unbeaten, young, hungry fighter, the best in Britain other than me, but I'm world champion and I've given him his chance - a chance I wasn't given to fight the best when I was at his stage in my career. He's had his chance and unfortunately he blew it."

[A rematch with Groves] doesn't do anything for my personal goals. George Groves was on my hitlist and guess what? On my record it says Froch v Groves - Froch TKO round 9, that's what it says and that's a very satisfying result on my record for the history books. They're the facts. It's a bitter pill for George Groves to swallow. I took the victory from him by being the warrior and the strong ironman that I am."

Now, when this fight ended I compared it to Watson/Eubank 1 in how it ended controversially and how it would outrage the public - and it did though not to the same extent due to boxing reduced profile in the modern day. Eubank, to his eternal credit, recognized the controversy of the first fight and went on national TV to demand a rematch becuase his pride would not allow him to move on with his career while people said he was second best and that Watson was better, whereas Froch hasn't recognized the controversy of the ending of his fight, has praised the referee for the premature stoppage and said the stoppage saved Groves career and is looking to move on to a different opponent without settling the outstanding business once and for all and winning clean.

Froch does have a granite chin but what he has is much mich more than that...he has huge heart..,chin alone won't het you through that.

Groves was about to get knocked out and hurt badly..he was stumbling around and the only reason he didnt go down was because the referee caught him.

All this absolute nonsense about Froch acknowledging it was an early stoppage is just silly. I have never heard or seen a fighter admit they were gifted a win. This was a very hard fought victory for Froch and deserves to fight whoever he wants. A rematch would be good because it was a good fight but not because Froch needs to prove anything.

This was the fight of Groves life but in the fullness of time i think we will see that he is not a world beater. Froch is at the end of his career and should be looking for the biggest fights possible. Lets not forget that Groves ia a virtual unknown on the world stage of boxing.

    Froch always gets strong..

I dont think so, usually his opponant is tierd of punching his iron jaw (taylor).

Dirrell got his energy from having a point deducted, completely and utterly outclassed him rounds 9-12.

Froch should have 5 losses, he best retire, his dome can only take so much.

He took as much punishment in one fight then in hopkins career.

I'd like groves to retire him.

I love how Froch is getting all the criticism (lots of it is justified), but why doesn't Groves get criticized? His lack of experience showed, he gave the fight away by fighting at a pace he couldn't sustain. Then in round 6-7 he threw all caution in the wind and started dropping his hands, sticking his chin out acting like Froch couldn't hurt him?

Why do boxing fans give him credit for showing such little ring intelligence? It wasn't the ref who defrauded Groves, it was Groves himself who gave the win away by being a dumbass and not using his brain.

What on earth was he thinking he could trade toe-to-toe with Froch, when he could just peek-a-boo, conserve his energy and throw the occasional right hand and comfortably cruise to a wide UD win.

I just watch a brief interview with Paddy Fitzpatrick on Skysports' website in which one of the question he's asked is, did the referee give a reason for the stoppage? The answer given was the fight was stopped because Groves "was hurt". On this issue Fitzpatrick and Groves raise valid points.

Fitzpatrick: "He said George was hurt - this is two men hitting each other. If he stopped it because he got hurt why didn't he stop it the seven or eight times Carl got hurt."

    Fitzpatrick's quote from here: http://www1.skysports.com/frochgrov...alled-to-account-after-george-groves-stoppage

Groves: "I didn’t speak to him. My trainer (Paddy Fitzpatrick) asked him why he stopped the fight and the answer was; “Oh, he was hurt!” How can he judge that with my head under his arm? He couldn’t see my eyes and I was still in the process of defending myself when he made the call. If I was in the same position that Lucian Bute was in (against Froch) then I would have no argument, because he was taking clean shots on the chin, not defending himself and not firing back. That was the complete opposite of what I was doing."

A second quote from Groves which isn't in direct response to Foster's justification for the stoppage but one which is related to the issue: "Did I take a couple of punches? Of course, but if we don’t hit each other the sport doesn’t exist."

Both Groves' quotes from here: http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/182175-qaa-george-groves-froch-has-two-options-rematch-or-retire

No you weren't George, you sagged and stumbled and didn't know where you were for a moment. That is not being in the process of defending yourself. Ref had hold of you cos you lost your equilibrium, and your legs by the look of it. The replays prove that, sag, stumble and shaky legs.

You also fought dumb after 6 great rounds and started to give the fight away. Not only did you drain your tank, but you were starting to take silly risks and getting hurt. You may want to blame everything on the referee but you need to wake up and accept that when you are getting rocked late in a fight, you are taking chances with the ref. Ideally if you jabbed and moved and fought smart, ref would have had no reason to be concerned.

Did the ref stop it early? yes it may well have been a bit premature. But can the ref use his discretion to judge the state you are in after taking heavy shots? yes and this ref decided to stop it. Other refs may not have, but thats the fine line you tread when you fight like that and start getting hurt.

Groves need to look at his indiscipline after 5 rounds and start asking himself some questions before dishing blame out to everyone else. He could and should have made it a lot easier for himself but he chose to stand and trade and so needs to take some responsibility.
