firsty froch never fought froch. even carl wouldn't spend 45 minutes in front of the mirror shadowboxing himself. so failed point. 2nd, I've never claimed this. why are there people on this forum who completely fabricate a view of the person they are replying to, in order to make their own counter- reply? these gooks should be on ignore for timewasting.
zags is famous for lacking power, get with it. he had no chance of stopping lacy, a guy who gets stopped by 40somethings.
I dont need to clutch at anything, it is one of several examples. Your triangle scenario is all at the same era and not relevant other than enhancing what I mentioned about the era being more known but arguably not as strong
You didnt even know these fighters when questioned some time back and wasnt watching then. Bika was coming off a draw with Beyer Brewer had beaten H Graham Mitchell 2 time WBA SMW champ He beat #1 Liles by KO drew with future 2 weight champ Girard beat Siaca twice who went on to become WBA SMW champ who beat Mundine beat former MW champ JC Green who beat a prime Joppy before Joppy was beaten by Trinidad or Hopkins. Mitchell only lost by SD to Ottke and was only ever beaten clearly once as a SMW. Saying Mitchell could possibly be Americas best SMW of the decade might not be far wrong Old post below Veit The win Calzaghe had over Veit was a very good victory. The first time Calzaghe beat Veit, Veit was 30-0 and hadnt beaten anyone of real note, hence he was blown away in a round by Calzaghe. When Calzaghe beat Veit a 2nd time Veit was an accomplished world rated 45-1 fighter who had some solid victories behind him, and was top 10 rated, having been involved in world title fights and having claim to Calzaghes world title. Veit had beaten undefeated Dziarra who wasnt a great fighter but did go on to beat L Mock and undefeated M Oral who would go on to challenge MW champs A Abraham and S Sylvester recently. Veit had also beaten beaten undefeated Guerrero for the European union title. Veit beat future title challenger Salem and Mock. Veit also beat world rated C Brewer with an educated destructive 9th round KO. A note on Veit. He only ever lost to world champs or fighters who became world champs and has victories over Mock, Salem, Perdermo (a future Kessler challenger), Brewer when Brewer was world rated and Veit beat undefeated Braehmer who is now the current WBO LHW champ due for a unification fight in JAN 2011. Since not happend due to illness A good Calzaghe victory over a mandatory world class SMW Also a great away victory for Calzaghe in Germany Braehmer now holds the WBA regular LHW title and is a top 5 LHW whilst at an older age in his career. Veits win over Brewer at the time was very impressive and highly rated If Roy was finished as a top level fighter how do you think he took the previous champ to a tough close decision, how do you think he would have gone on to take the future LHW champ 12 and put him down. How do you think he would have taken a CW champ into the 10th round and been ahead on one card?
bailey, I've missed arguing/debating with you so much. I'm so glad you're back. I'm going to leave Dino to answer these points, but it's hilarious how you always spin the stats in your favour. Eubank was NOT a top 5 SMW when Joe fought him. And I know that if Ward had fought the exact same version of Eubank who Joe fought, that your post would be worded a lot different. You always state how Kessler was faded, unwell and rusty etc. So we all know that you'd have mentioned Eubank's preparation, his weight, his knees and the fact that he was faded etc. :good
bailey, You're confusing me with someone else. I'm 35. Of course I was watching. I can't give Brewer much credit for beating a 38/39 year old faded Herol Graham. Who else did he beat of note? So what if Bika drew with Beyer? Who has he beat of note? Neither of them have any stand out wins. His biggest win was against Liles. That was a great win for him. Liles had seen better days though. He was stopped again in his last fight a few years later, and then he retired. Mitchell was decent. But again, in my opinion, he was nothing special. Those stats aren't going to change my opinion. I'm not bothered if he was rated in the top ten, or that he beat Braehmer. I don't rate Braehmer that highly, and Braehmer and Inkin knocked him out. He was a good fighter, but nothing more. It's not even up for debate that Roy was finished as a top level fighter. He lost to Tarver twice and to Johnson, four years before he fought Joe. He was 3-3 in his last six fights. Danny Green knocked him out in a round a year later. What top level win did he have after the first Tarver fight? What does it prove that he went the distance with Hopkins, and ten rounds with Lebedev? Even Joe didn't rate him as a top fighter. How many times have we discussed this? Joe said he was past his best, a fight would be pointless, and he'd be disappointed to fight him. It's all on record. He took the fight to top up his pension fund against a guy who offered no threat to him. This is common knowledge. :good
Probably because Froch would have posed a legit challenge. Now I think Calzaghe beats him, but the line between the myth of Calzaghe(unbeatable because none of the guys he fought beat him) vs the reality of Calzaghe (very few world class wins) needs to be seen. Froch is in every way Kessler's equal in the ring, with a far better resume. Kessler who at the very least was Calzaghe's 2nd best win(the best win in my book). Now it proves nothing in and of itself, but Froch was a guy who always managed to be competitive beyond what his limitations would have us believe. He always competed despite slow hands, and slower feet. Calzaghe, who was only truly dominant against fighters of lesser quality than Froch(with the best being Lacy), struggled on occasion against those lesser opponents. Calzaghe made use of a unique style, snd he wouldn't run, even ahead on the cards, and would be there to be hit. So, on the face of it, yes, Calzaghe with the clear speed advantage in every measurable facet should be able to box circles around Froch. Looking deeper, I think it would be far more competitive than some think.
Wide wide UD. Froch may win a couple of rounds at most. I've never seen this one as a close fight. Froch is too easy to land on, and Calzaghe's workrate is far too high not to take it on points. His only hope is a brutal KO, and I don't see it happening.
we'll never know, since joe ran screaming and gibbering as he often does, from his mando with froch to another division to fight 40somethings, with froch calling him back for months to no avail.
