    Maybe.

    Maybe not.

He undoubtedly has talent, but there's something missing.

He spends too much time on the canvas.

    I know, I know.

Sometimes it's slippery, but it always seems to be Dirrell who does that little leg-sliding slip.

Did he once have a future in baseball ?

The AA-Dirrell incident has been done to death, and there was no other result that could have been justified, but I do believe after a lot of re-watchings, that there was a bit of hamming-it-up going on there.

I do feel that AA was coming on and I feel that Dirrell knew that too. I believe he was either unlucky that he didn't get to win his points victory at the end of twelve, or he was lucky AA got carried away. Don't know which for sure.

At any rate, he reminds me a bit of Cory Spinks in that he has loads of talent but he's missing the heart and the fortitude to be great.

In a rematch, AA has more room to learn from his first bout and I have a feeling that could go very differently. Maybe not.

I have to say that, strangely enough, his stock with me rose a bit when Kessler defeated Froch. I believe (ironically) that was Froch's best performance so far, and that he was somewhat better than I had previously believed.

And I scored the Froch-Dirrell fight a draw, with a slight leaning towards Dirrell.

At any rate, his bout with Ward will be interesting.

    It will answer some questions.

I'll just go back to my 'young' comment and add that experience does count in this business. He was thrust into a situation that may have come too soon in his career. How many world class opponents had he fought prior to this? Now everyone is world class.

    Possibly.

There are reasons management move their prospect along carefully and gradually.

Who knows what Davey Moore might have done if he hadn't faced Duran in his just his twelfth fight.
