I keep hearing how Carl Froch has an amazing chin, can someone please tell me how someone can say Carl Froch has an amazing chin when he hasn't been hit hard consistently by anyone anywhere near world class level?

Also, you can see the difference in punching power when fighters step up in class to fight world level fighters. As of yet 'The Cobra' hasn't fought anyone nearing that level to prove that he has one punch knockout credentials so can't understand the hype about that either.
Not saying he can't punch but the evidence doesn't suggest he can bang top notch guys out either!

    Jurys still out!

he has never been down as an amateur or pro. almost every fighter got put down a a prospect. robin reid hit him flush on the chin and froch didnt flinch.

de la hoya for example, has a sold chin, but got put down a few times coming up.

froch has a 90% KO rate. so as it stands he is a big puncher. robin ried said froch was a bigger puncher than lacy (he fought prime lacy remember) and calzaghe when his hands we ok and he could punch.

undisputed indeed. I don't think anyone has really rated froch that highly on these boards aside from the man himself. However, the fights i've seen from him do suggest he does have legit hurtful power. He in fact is the only man to genuinely HURT robin reid. Lacy never hurt reid.
Robin was more overwhelmed by the moment, and only went down when hit on the break by jeff. Later in the fight he sought solace under lacy barrages but got right up on very steady legs. Whereas with froch
he got hurt and wobbled badly by 1 froch right to the head. Evidenced
that froch hits harder than lacy. Also, when you're putting guys on oxygen like he did against magee one can say he can really crack.
The thing that makes froch the most dangerous to me is his complete
iciness in the ring. He has no fear or respect of his opponent. He can punch and is very strong with good angle movement. Def a top 5ish
168 lb'er. nothing more or nothing less.
He'll stop pascal this weekend. mark my words.

Fair enough but Robin Reid was well past it then and had a pretty poor performance before that against a contender fighter.
Reid may have been bigging him up to make himself look better!
Interesting about his amateur and pro record though.

    Cheers.

Vic Darchinyan was never down as a pro of an amatuer...... saw what happened to him.

ANd not not almost every fighter gets put down as a prospect.

To be fair Oscar fought much better opponents than Froch has when he was coming up. I also really don't know about his punch power because in all fairness I think that Manfredo was 10x better than that last guy Froch fought and the stoppage over that guy was just as debatable as Calzaghe's against Manfredo. I also thought that Reid actually wobbled Froch in that fight as well. He just looks like he is about the same standard as Jeff Lacy to me.

Don't matter if a fighter is past it regards to power,
Power is something that will never decrease when you are active.

    Good points, thanks!

Was just thinking though that he can be icy in his demeanour when he is not being threatened with being challenged or even tested.
Elite or top level fighters wont give him breathing space but it will be interesting to see how he goes.

That's fine so long as he doesn't experience Lacy's rapid decline.

YEAH SURE he looks, icy, cool and calm..

but which top 10 fighter wouldnt look icy, calm and cool, when their highest ranked opponent is tase-bla-bla-voyian..

gimme a break.. no one ever, has had so much hype based on so little credentials..

he hasnt proven his power against a world level fighter, with a good to great chin..

and he hasnt proven his chin versus a world level fighter, with good to great power..

Add Jermain Taylor to that list... his first time on the mat was when he was knocked unconcious against Kelly Pavlik.

There's a first time for everything...

Froch's chin is like Bute's punching power i.e. a big hype job!

After 15 fights, Bute had 15 KOs against C-fighters! As soon as he stepped-up level of fighters, his KO ratio suddenly went down.

If Pascal's shoulder is really healed, trust me he's going to test Froch's chin.

    Pascal easy UD!

I don't understand why most opinions must be so cut and dry.

Isn't it logical to say that not ever being down as an amateur or pro (especially if you've never been stopped in amateur boxing) is a good sign, but that it's hard to declare above average punch resistance before one has been hit by world-level punches?

Ironically, that "never been down, never been stopped" tag applies to Pascal as well. But we've also learned in that last 15 months that his chin is not immune from being dented.
