    Hopkins-Froch on the cards

Golden Boy chief executive Richard Schaefer says that Bernard Hopkins is interested in relieving Carl Froch of his WBC super-middleweight title.

Hopkins, who recovered from losing his light-heavyweight Ring crown to the now-retired Joe Calzaghe just over a year ago by beating Kelly Pavlik on points, is keen on Froch’s crown. And Schaefer says that London could be the venue for a bout that ‘The Cobra’ is also eager to get involved in.

"Hopkins is interested in fighting Froch,” Schaefer was quoted as saying by The Sun.

"We've spoken to Froch's promoter Mick Hennessy and they are interested. They only want big fights now and Hopkins is a big fight.

"Hopkins told me he would do it at super-middleweight so I'm going to try to make it.

"We could possibly do it at the O2 Arena in London - it would be big."

Froch, 31, downed Jermain Taylor last month and with no chance of a fight against Calzaghe, a clash with Hopkins could be the next logical move.

He said on the possibility: "Would I consider fighting a guy like that? Yeah, I would look at that.

"If he's talking about it, we would definitely look at it if it could be done.

"He's very experienced and he's very big and strong - but it's something I would be keen to do."

Damn Hopkins picks his fights well. Can't blame him at his age. It's still a remarkable achievement after all to be fighting at this level, but a guy like Froch is not a threat.

    Please let this happen.

Seeing Carl Froch get a boxing lesson and get completely embarrassed over 12 rounds would be too good to miss.

  5. I know B-Hop will probably win..... But you never know, and it would be fantastic to see Carl fight B-Hop.

Although it is pretty high risk for Froch... If he wins he has beaten a 44 year old man... and if he loses he has lost to a 44 year old man

And I would love to see an ATG in the flesh if it is held in the U.K

Why is Froch even considering this when he can get fights with guys like Bute? Hopkins will make anyone he fights look ugly win or lose.

Yep. Sadly a lot of people won't realise how great of a win this would be for Froch. People still don't recognise it for Calzaghe, so how is Froch going to get credit for beating him at this point?

It's a no win situation for Froch, but he'll probably see it as a way to get Calzaghe in the ring once more.

    Froch's hope:

    1. Hopkins finally starts showing his age.
    2. Hopkins is weight drained from making super-middleweight.

    Both unlikely

If he's still going strong at 44 what hope is there of another few months making a difference

He made 170lbs against Pavlik. Another 2lbs for a dedicated guy like Hopkins that is never more than 5lbs over the weight? ;)

    Poor Carl.

There on different networks in the States.
Hopkins is HBO and Showtime have options on Froch's next fight so Froch may have to fight somebody else first.

Most people with a knowledge of boxing thought B Hop beat Calzaghe...

  13. But will Froch take another smaller cut just after putting it all on the line for $500-700k to fight Taylor.

Hopkins will be looking for excess of a Million

Carl's only chance would be that Hopkins age suddenly catchs up with him.

You can see based on the Hopkins-Pavlik and Froch-Pascal/ Taylor fights why Hops would really fancy his chances.
