It's a bit like a poll on the best tv shows of the 2000's I saw a few weeks ago. I go yep "The Wire"" one of the GOATS. I scroll down and i'm like where the fu*k is the Soprano's? Then I realised it start in 1999 so was omitted from the list. I have been a Fury fan from the begining even when he was arguably losing and punching himself in the face. Many a time I defended him however his resume does not measure upto his skill set. beating Vlad the man in a poor heavyweight fight but a great win. Wilder I never rated as he didn't fight anyone else I'd heard of and before the melts counter King Kong. Nah who has he fought? Dave Allen? GTFOH!! Stiverne is also very poor. There is a thing called recency bias and that is seen all the time even on here when an average fighter is hypothetically matched with absolute legend of the sport based on a half decent win. Lewis resume and legacy wise is far ahead of Fury who would need to fully unify and beat another 3-4 best contenders to be in the running.
He has not fought TOP 5 of this era, and people still say he is the best. WTF ? Fight and beat:Whyte, Joyce, AJ, Hunter, Usyk and then talk about that.
Agreed....Lewis was a good allrounder , it would've been an interesting match up but I have Lewis stopping him...
I don't think anybody would deny Fury having a better chin than Lewis. But that isn't the only factor. If it were, then Chuvalo or Cobb is probably the greatest fighter ever.
Lewis has a much better and deeper resume. Fury has a way to go to catch the pugilist specialist. Unification would be a good start.
Wilder is a bit more than a (former) paper champ. He's a monster puncher, and decent at landing those punches. If Fury were even a little bit less tough, he'd have lost the first and third fights. Fury's rising after that knockdown in 12 in their first fight is one of the greatest get-ups in boxing history. I'm not sure even Holmes's get-up after being knocked on his ass by Shavers was as good. Just saying.
Fury best win (Wlad) is up there with Lewis top wins however Fury second best win (arguably between Chisora and Wilder) probably wouldn't make Lewis's top 10 wins. Fury needs to beat the likes of Usyk, AJ and Whyte to have a comparable career (which I don't think he is capable of).
