How do you know that's why he fought for Ireland? He fought for Ireland weel before the Olympics or the qualifiers. He couldn't fight for Ireland at the Olympics because his fathers birth (Galway) wasn't recorded because Travellers dont (or didnt) register births. And how do you know for sure he's only trying to milk the Irish connection in Ney York? Since he turned pro he's had an Irish tri colour on his shorts or a reference to Ireland.

Why is this such a big issue with some people?

Hasn't really worked for Fury, ticket sales have been crap. They announced today that there's 50% off ticket prices.

    It isn't, is it?

Us Brits find it funny. It's obvious what he's doing. Good luck to him, his personality/using the Irish angle is all he has going for him as he is bloody boring to watch.

All this talk of national identity reminds me of Furys fight with German joke-jock... Marcel Zeller....now there was a man with an identity crisis

I remember watching that on ITV! Fury's 2nd pro fight I think, undercard of Murray vs McAllister for the British belt.

That bloke looked like one of those German butchers you see set up market stalls and make sausage just only with the bottom half of apron on.

**** knows what made him wear a kilt that night, it was in Wigan of all places. Had he come out in a Wigan Warriors rugby top then I'd have understood, but why a ****ing kilt? :patsch

Lol Britain=Scotland Wales and England, n Ireland is part of the uk (for now) , not part of Britain. Everyone from n Ireland can have either Irish or uk passports (or both) and in general, most Catholics from n Ireland have 0 genetic input from Britain.
