There is little doubt that in the 1st fight Wilder nearly won by knockout; you cannot discount this happening again. Whatever wilder is/is not nobody can deny he has got a wicked right hand. There is also little doubt that in the 2nd fight Wilder was schooled. You would expect in the circumstances the 3rd fight would be a repeat of the 2nd but it's impossible to predict as to whether Wilder will come game prepared with a knockout on his mind and if he is then fury will still need to be fully concentrating. I do wonder as to whether he has his mind entirely on the game but we will see. As regards the press conference and Wilder saying nothing other than the 3 lines that he did I watched the video Interview that he did straight after and in truth it was the 1st time in a long time that I have heard him talk sense (in amongst the usual rubbish). To paraphrase he said correctly that - Fury's strength is the entertainment at the press conferences. In the last 2 fights he had gone along with it. He is not prepared to go along with it in this fight. If Fury wants to entertain then he can do on his own. Wilder simply will not participate. He made it clear that his sole intention and focus is on the fight itself. I think there is some sense in this. I don't see it as being evidence of him being mentally shot at all. It's obvious that he cannot out talk Fury. By doing so he was just likely to burn up nervous energy. Seems like a good plan to me to save it for the fight. It could be evidence of him being really focused in fact. I am dubious about how competitive the fight will be given the 2nd fight and the excuses after but we will see.
You got further than I get when I come across most of your posts (and the vast majority are one liners), so kudos for that.
I was more interested in what both trainers had to say. Malik Scott- Wilder has always had boxing skills but until now only used them in training. Sugarhill Steward- Fury didn't have a knockout punch, now he does. I find it hard to believe that a 35 yr old fighter has managed to hide boxing skills for all these years. I find it pretty plausible that Kronk have improved Fury's power.
You can never discount Wilder, however Fury’s strategy of being the much bigger / stronger / heavier man paid dividends in the 2nd fight as we all saw. He still has good enough defence slipping shots slightly and managing range really well, as well as having the confidence and ability to impose himself on Wilder. It is clear that Wilder doesn’t like non-stop pressure on him. Most boxers have been put off doing this because if you press him you are more open to one of his right hands, and those who have had success such as Ortiz (outboxed him but not necessarily bullied him) and Szpilka have always been caught within time. I’ve seen the new work with Malik Scott and literally nothing is impressing me. Wilder will always have that power, but he doesn’t have that invulnerability anymore. Before this, Wilder had 40 odd fights that his power had always got him out of jail - didn’t matter how rubbish he was his power would win him (or in the case of Fury 1 earn a draw) the fight. He now knows that it won’t always work for him - does this make Wilder change his strategy and try a different way to win? I can’t see Deontay winning here. The blueprint to beat him has been set - good defence moving forward with non-stop pressure. I can only see a Fury stoppage win, with Wilder likely retiring afterwards.
Exactly my point there is gulf from the likes Povetkin, Whyte, Parker, Ruiz , Whyte and you could Pulev has batter resume than Wilder. Aj got beat by underdog (that has the quickest hands in the divison) and then beat him convincingly in the rematch. Yes AJ beat a soft champ in Martin (Fury beat a soft champ in Wilder) however Martin would be Furys 4th best opponent on his resume and Wilder's second best whilst debatably is between him and Takam for AJ's 7th or 8th best opponent. Yes AJ had two soft title defences against Brezeale and Molina but has fought top quality opposition since.
I think it was definitely smart of Wilder to say nothing, even though it was a bit cringe. He obviously didn’t trust himself to keep his cool. But I’m a bit surprised Fury just didn’t take the headphones off his head or something. Wilder probably would have just completely lost it lol
Martin is garbage. You can't compare him and Wilder as champions. He literally won his belt by way of his opponent getting injured then sold it to AJ 2 months later. Wilder would annihilate Martin and all of Joshua's other opponents bar Klitschko. Joshua certainly hasn't faced 'top quality opposition'.
Disagree. Povetkin- pre covid would have battered him. Ruiz - too quick and too much pressure would of put Wilder on the back foot. Whyte - I'd favour him to KO Wilder early. Wilder avoided big punchers his whole career for a reason. Parker - too tough, quick and skilled for Wilder. Pulev - would jabbed wilders head all night. Wilder was struggling with Washington jab and Pulev has a far superior jab to him. I mean Wilder best win is Ortiz of all people and has struggled against the like of Washington, Dauphaus Spzilka and Scroniers.
Povetkin was still shot to bits pre-covid. Drew with Hunter and nearly got flattened by David Price. Parker, Whyte and Pulev would all get KO'd. Ruiz was a cherry picked opponent who suddenly became world class when he beat Joshua. He was a laughing stock a week before. Who was his best win before that?
Povetkin wasn't shot pre covid, held his own against very good Hunter (I had Hunter winning) , beat Price, Hughie and Whyte who was on fantastic win streak. Ruiz win over AJ is far superior win to any win Wilder has done. Became unified champion, Wilder has avoided to attempt to unify as meant he fighting a live body.
If so why has Wilder avoided all of to take much, much, much weaker opposition? His management certainly don't have faith in his ability.
Whyte turned down 2 final eliminators for a shot at Wilder's belt. The 2 fighters he turned down fights against (Ortiz and Breazeale) went on to fight Wilder in the next fight. It's not rocket science why Wilder hasn't fought Whyte. Wilder signed to fight Povetkin and Povetkin failed a drugs test. Can't help that. As for avoiding Pulev...
Wilder also turned down Offers to fight both Whyte and Chisora. Also Wilder Whyte a message that he freeze him out of the mandatory spot. Wilder still could of fought Povetkin eg. On May 31, it was announced on Sky Sports by Povetkin's promoters that new drug test results prove the Povetkin is a clean athlete. The new doping test, taken May 17, showed no traces of meldonium. This was reported by VADA. Wilder went running for the Hills as soon as Povetkin wasn't mandatory and the WBC protect him again. As for Pulev Wilder has never beaten anyone his level.
