If true about his child, then best wishes for the child and the fight being postponed has zero importance.
Prayers up for a recovery for his baby and thoughts are with the family. However, Tyson should either vacate or be stripped of the WBC if he is unable to fight. He has been messing around for too long and this fight should have been done and dusted over a year ago. We all know the July pullout was probably nothing to do with Covid either. There are also fighters on the undercard who are not earning/careers stalled because of this.
Reading reports it looks like the baby is going to be fine, a huge scare for them but they're all over the internet with it so I'm hoping/guessing all is fine. With this in mind it's not an excuse to mess around again like he has in the past, he's still yet to defend a belt and if he is somehow lacking mentally in that department vacate it as there are plenty of guys out there that want to fight for and defend that belt. I'm fed up with Fury and his inactivity, twice he's become a World Champion and each time he's done nothing for 18 months or longer.
To be fair to John Fury he was very candid in a BT interview about the situation with his granddaughter- I would be amazed if the original date goes ahead as it stands.
WBC should definitely strip him then. Yes, it's sad and I feel for him, but he can't just hold up a belt, and to a degree, the whole division like that. If I say I can't turn up to work for 18 months, I get fired, no matter what the issue is. They're not going to put me on hold. If it's true and the fight really is postponed again or even scrapped all together, then we might be looking at a situation where Fury has sat on the belt for two years without a single defense. That should not be allowed under any circumstances.
Boxing has been back post-COVID since June 2020 and Fury's promoters (Top Rank) were the first to bring it back, so he's got no excuses as to why he hasn't fought in the last 14 months - especially as he supposedly doesn't care about money.
Also, isn't this what the 'champion in recess' thing was brought in for? Make Fury champion in recess, have the next 2 in line fight for the WBC belt, then Fury fights the winner for the full version. Similar thing happens in UFC.
When does enough become enough though? It'll be his 4th postponement of a planned fight in the last 9 months now. Dec 2020 because of financial stuff, Joshua because of the arbitration, Wilder lll because of coronavirus then family stuff. Granted, some stuff is bigger than boxing but he's holding the division up. I can't fcking stand Whyte but in the UFC if a champion is unable to defend his belt they have an interim belt and once the main champion is back, he'll fight the interim champ for the full title. Or why not make him champion in recess and have 2 people fight for the vacant belt? The next 4 in line with the WBC are Wilder, Whyte, Joyce and Ruiz so it's not like you'll end up with a complete no hoper holding the belt.
Fury is just the kinda guy who will find an excuse not to do something if he won't be 100 percent right or if something doesn't suit him in any way. It's all about him and not others boxers or boxing in general. I liked the guy and always gave him the benefit of the doubt but i've started to see through the nonsense a bit. There's always some shadiness surrounding him or something will always seem to crop up. An injured foot, positive steroid tests swept under the carpet, pulling out of rematches, covid 19 and generally not being consistent in his boxing career. If he can find an excuse to not do something he wants to do he seems to try it.
I'm all for stripping fighters for lots of different reasons. But a very sick child is not one. Looks like the child will be OK though.
Same as me. Was always a big Fury fan and told all my casual AJ-loving mates for years that Fury would come back and regain the number 1 spot, even when he was 28 stone and 2.5 years out of the ring. Was still a fan up to and including the first Wilder fight but since then he's done my head in and become everything he claimed to hate.
I know that pal and without the other 3 excuses I'd not even entertain the idea. Just always seems to be something else at the minute though.
Yup, there's been too many now, I still don't know why such an intimate thing as the birth of a child and it's condition needs to be shared if I'm honest, I thought he was supposed to be staying off social media in the build up to fights? Fury has never helped himself and although this obviously a very stressful time for all concerned thankfully it looks, judging by everything we're seeing on the internet, that the baby is going to be alright now. Take the fight or vacate.
