    Gamboa is the best prospect and will be a great fighter.

    He will never achieve what Hopkins and Mayweather have achieved because he has not much time.

    And God wouldn't be floored by Darling Jimenez.

    The thing about Gamboa is that he's already 26. You would expect a guy with only 9 fights to be about 22 or so. I mean Pavlik is 26 also but he's what, 31-0?

    Gamboa is obviously blessed with incredible physical gifts. But that alone doesn't guarantee greatness. Just look at Judah. Based on his raw talents, he should've been a P4P king. He's got to combine that talent with the intangibles like dedication and mental intelligence. But boy is he gifted.

    Things I like about Gamboa;

    Speed, agressiveness, athleticism

    Things that worry me about Gamboa;

    Defense, stamina, not precise with his punches

    Overall, I think Gamboa is a terrific fighter. However, I just don't see why people are claiming he's a future p4p #1 fighter. I guess time will tell.

    HBO said that he had over 450 amatuer fights. But he still looks raw. He depends exclusively on his athletic gifts to beat people. He just puts his hands down from the outside and initiates the action and jumps back out. And he can get away with it because he has Roy Jones type foot speed, reflexes, and hand speed.

    But there will come a time when he has to do more than that against the elite fighters. I mean the way he just comes in with his hands down, he would get countered like crazy against a great counter puncher like JMM. What happens then? He will have to go to a plan B. Can he put his hands up and counter effectively instead of just lunging in with his hands down?

    I think his biggest problem is that he has the physical attributes to be a boxer, but the mentality to be a fighter.

    If he can find the right meeting place between those two ideas, he'll be a PfP fighter. If not, he's Judah.

    This is a joke? He never even breathed through his mouth or looked slightly phased in the fight. Check out round 10 where he throws punches for a straight minute and is still light on his feet and throws more combos right afterwards. His stamina was impressive to say the least

    Jimenez has no power punch and knocked Gamboa down.
    That is a bad signal for a begginer.

    Gamboa while good he needs a lot of improvement. He keeps his hands too low and when he faces better comp they will be able to take advantage of it. His speed is great but I think his power is somewhat overrated.

    All this is true, but you forgot one point...

    He's a cocky SOB & I look forward to the day when somebody lays him out.

    Kellerman didn't seem that impressed after the fight, but I actually came out more impressed. The fact that he was still going full throttle in the 10th is a HUGE plus for me. At this point, I'd pick him over at least 2 of the 4 beltholders at 126.

    He's not going to start holding his hands up though. That's just how he fights. Maybe he improves that with time, but he'd been KDed before and he'll be KDed again. He didn't look particularly hurt to me after the KD, although he was trying to be a little bit safer then.

    It wasn't a KD like from a shot on the chin. Gamboa is a block head & I don't think any shot on his chin drops him. The punch that knocked him down was a shot to the temple & he was a bit off balance at the time & fell to his side, the direction the punch was traveling.

    But that changes nothing. Still wanna see his cocky butt get lite up one day.

    Agreed on the 10th round. That was one of the most impressive single rounds I've seen in the past year.

    In a long fight, having been stunned a few times, he completely removed all possibility of a loss not by running, but by throwing so many punches and giving his opponent so many angles that Jiminez never had a chance.

    However, my fear also is that he will keep dropping his hands. I actually thought his legs were slightly wobbly when get got up from the KD, but then he recovered very quickly, even if that was the case. You do wonder what happens if a better puncher catches him cleanly as Jiminez did with the hooks, though.

    Changing trainers is a risky proposition. It isn't technique but stubborness. That's why a relative novice in Ozell Nelson was able to do a better job than Steward with Jermain Taylor, simply because Jermain will listen to him.

    They need to find that that guy for Gamboa before disaster strikes. In the meantime, I remain excited to follow his rise through the division.
