    Gamboa, The next Manny Pacquiao???

Manila, Philipines. A boxing annalyst from Sports Illustrated, believes that former WBA-IBF Title holder and undefeated Cuban featherweight sensation Yuriorkis Gamboa has all the potential to become boxing's next Super Star.

Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated said Gamboa, an undefeated pro boxer from Cuba, has all the tools needed to become a boxing star on the level of current P4P King Manny Pacquiao.

"Pacquiao is a one or twice in a generation fighter", Mannix says. "But make a shortlist of candidates who could fill the void once Pacquiao decides to walk away from boxing and Gamboa has to be on it".

Gamboa has a record of 21 wins with no losses, with 16 of his victories coming by knockout. His most recent victory against Daniel Ponce de Leon, came via an 8th round technical decision on cuts.

Mannix believes that Yuriorkis Gamboa has all the tools to be the next Manny Pacquiao.

"Gamboa has blinding speed along with superior power, and I compare him favorable to Pacquiao" Mannix says.

But Top Rank promoter Todd duBoef is cautious as dubbing Gamboa as the next Super Star in the sport.

"Creating another Pacquiao isn't easy and I wish it was", duBoef said. "There just aren't many guys like him".

Mannix said Gamboa has still a lot to accomplish ~ the Cuban boxer former amateur standout has only been a professional boxer for 4 years.

"With just some improvements and a commitment to seeking a spectacular finish, Gamboa has all the potential to mode himself into a Pacquiao level star", he said.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Pacquiao admitted that he wants to pass the Torch to another Star before hanging up the gloves.

The Filipino boxing Icon mentioned WBC Welterweight Champion Victor Ortiz, who will face the undefeated Floyd Mayweather on Sept 17.

Pacquiao said that his next successor doesn't have to be Filipino.

"It doesn't matter as long as there is one boxer who can be admired by all fans", said Pacquiao.

After his dominant victory against Daniel Ponce de Leon, Gamboa said that he wants to move up in weight and may seek a fight with Pacquiao.

Gamboa is also willing to face another Filipino, bantamweight Champion Nonito Donaire.

Opinions ??? I am sure there are PLENTY. ;)

    Better than Pacquiao.

Gamboa is like a mini athletic Tyson. Incredible power, speed and skills a once in a life time kind of talent.

No, he's all offense and neglects his defense which makes him a KO waiting to happen especially considering his rather poor punch resistance.

    Pacquiao's a crossover star.

His lineage comes from Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard, and even Mike Tyson and Oscar De La Hoya.

Performance, and actual boxing skills, yeah. He has the potential. But even Pernell Whitaker and Roy Jones Jr didn't enjoy mainstream success as much as Pacquiao did, and those two are some of the worst H2H matchups for anyone.

In that regard I don't think Gamboa is the next Pacquiao.

Gamboa has never been hurt, all of his knockdowns have been flashy out of balance. Pac has already been KO'd before. ;)
