I see a lot of Shaw bashing on this forum but to me this makes no sense because Shaw is the sort of promoter we need in boxing and this has been playing on my mind for a while now. Ok so he may not be the most savvy promoter but he makes the fights we want to see and doesn't protect his fighters to the nth degree like other promoters do. Bradley, Angulo, Kirkland - heck even Lacy! He puts his guys in against top contenders and the annoying thing is (1) his fighters leave him and (b) the fans ridicule him!!! Imo if boxing was run by guys like Shaw we'd see Floyd vs Manny already. Why do so many dislike this guys explain it to me? :huh
Shaw is great at getting guys TV time...but can't for the life of him get his fighters any sort of publicity or cross over appeal.
I hate Gary Shaw  Poor at getting his fighters any sort of crossover appeal, that's why they all eventually leave him. He's a sore loser, and watching fightcamp 360 I got the impression he's a dick of a human being. :fire
This is true I 100% agree. But seriously as a fan what would you prefer? Publicity or great match ups?
Personally I like tear ups, but he's a PROMOTER and not a match maker, he needs to promote guys or they will leave him.
He's terrible and when u watch shobox next generation, even when his guys get embarrassed, they always seem to win
Shaw is a shithouse promoter who is incapable of turning a fighter mainstream but he has shown an ability to make some classic fights, eg: Vazquez v Marquez, Diego v Castillo!
I won't deny Shaw's scouting ability to find talent, so many major fighters have got there major starts with Gary, yet he loses them all, hmmmmm. As we speak he's picking up eastern european guys. Well that didn't sound right, but you get the idea. He's global. He signed Geale in Austalia, and he's down in South America signing guys. He digs up talent and brings it back to the US, where the rest of the promoters swipe it off his plate. Shaw's a hack at promoting, he's a starter kit for being a prize fighter. If you're still with him after 4-6 tv fights, there's something wrong with you (Dawson).
