To be honest I've never compiled a list beyond top two or three of a given division. Sounds hard, but an interesting exercise. Yeah, I'll do it.

I'll throw my hat into the ring for this as well.

I'm not sure yet. But no. Definitely not starting with heavyweight in the event we do 8 divisions, because the sample size will decrease too much as we ventured south. That was a downside from the series of surveys 11 years back.

    I was originally thinking:

    1. Top 15 from each of the original 8, all at once, and I'll break up the reveal, bottom-up.

But I know that's a tall ask, and frankly, it will keep me busy for months.

    Then I was thinking.

    2. Two Top 25 lists - one Top 25 HW, and one Top 25 non-HW.

I was leaning that direction because it's not as tall an ask in my opinion, and it would reduce things to an easier to manage two-part series on the results reveal.

Now I'm not so sure, but I have a third approach, that combines the two.

    3. 8 lists on the top 12 from each division, and a separate top 25 all time, regardless of weight class That wold be 9 total lists at once.

Any feedback from everyone will be appreciated. The big thing I'm gunning for is to get complete sets of lists from everyone.

Asking for a Top 15 from the original 8 - that's a difficult task, playing on what @Saintpat was getting at. I personally won't be participating in the survey, because I don't want my opinions influencing the results in any way. But honestly, I'm not sure I can do a Top 15 for each of the original 8 without struggling.

At the moment, I'm still up in the air. But I am hoping to begin the survey some time next week, and let it run its course for 5-6 weeks, give or take.

To repeat, the big thing I'm hoping for is getting everyone's lists at the same time, so that the sample size is consistent throughout the survey series. The results may ultimately take 2 months or more to release them all after the survey closes. But I'd very much like a consistent sample size.

Please! Everyone who is interested - let me know what you think. I'm leaning towards one of those 3 options, but as all of you are the people volunteering and willing to contribute, if one of these methods is overwhelmingly favored by the majority of interested posters, well, to quote Mayor Quimby, "When the wind blows let it not be said, that I too, do not blow".

I am happy with any of the 3 options.

I think I like option 1. Option 2 seems overly skewed towards heavyweights with only a general nod to any of the others.

Count me in, Rummy, whichever way you decide to go.

I’m sure I’ll open myself up to some ridicule with my choices and go ‘oh (expletive), how could I not have _____ in there’ but I’ll live with it and learn from the overall results.

It could be a fairly big lift but we’ve got some big boys (and girls?) on here and it will be fun at the very least.

And how could I refuse Rummy after all the joy I’ve gotten from his videos? (Which if you’ve never seen his work, I urge you to check it out.)

EDIT: The more you can help in the way of criteria (H2H, resume, etc.) the better. My H2H rankings would look quite different than based on resume.

Thanks for the quick feedback, same to @dmt and @Saintpat

    What if I combined 1 & 3 for a 4th option?

    9 lists:
Top 15 of each of the original 8
Top 25 all time (regardless of weight class)

    ?

I understand what you're getting at.

If this 4th solution isn't too much of a burden for everyone, I can roll with that (and I'll be sure to give everyone ample time to think about this).

I just don't want to overburden everyone where the task becomes too stressful or too big an obligation.

But if I had a constant sample size, honestly, I would be eager to see the final numbers under this 4th approach.

At the very least, this time I want more than 10 names - because as much as I'm interested in seeing the high end of the results, I'm equally interested in seeing how placement from 10-30 will look under this scoring system I have in mind.

I like this option the best. And as noted in my edit above, guidance on criteria (H2H or resume or what you want us to consider) would be valuable.

Honestly, I think it should be based on a combination of factors, including resume, H2H, and quality of opposition, etc. But I'll allow each participant to use their own discretion to interpret how those factors should be utilized in his determinations.

Last time, we got some excellent lists overall.

There was only one or two lists I didn't include because I felt (and as I recall, @McGrain and others agreed) it was a troll-job. Not that I'm trying to be an authoritarian about any of this. But, and I mean no disrespect to Orlin Norris or Chris Byrd, someone inexplicably included both of them on a Top 10 list of all time P4P boxers. And that seemed a bit too far fetched to include it.

My hope is no one will try and do anything to artificially manipulate outcomes by deliberately downplaying an ATG they dislike or overstating one they are a big fan of.

Option 4 seems like a good one. I'd vote for that.

Just banged together top 15s for all 8 divisions plus a top 25 p4p. They still need some refinement, particularly in the lower weight classes.
