i sposed he 'could' win. nobody acutally knows how good Gavin Rees is, his career had no direction at all and he was beating nobody in particular, yoyo-ing between weight division, and now he is world champion...I dont think Warren knows what to do with him...
Witter-Hatton would be comparable to Buchanan-Watt historically: Buchanan was on the comeback trail a (suspect) loss to a p4p great in the form of Roberto Duran, and Jim Watt was the top domestic opponent for him. Both were from Scotland, just as both Hatton and Witter are from the middle of England. Watt-Buchanan was one of the best fights ever: a classic exhibition of skill and intelligence (Buchanan) against strength and courage (Watt). Witter-Hatton would be like that except in reverse. I can honestly see Witter, if he comes in with his head properly screwed on, pulling off the upset.
Hatton is a disgrace. He says he doesn't want to fight Witter because he isn't a big enough name in America then he goes and fights Rees. This is just like MAussa, Collazo and Urango - he's fighting the weakest title holder and avoiding the good one(s).
That would be pretty cool. Then we could have Rees-Witter for the WBC/WBA titles and that stupid Ring title people seem to love so much.
I can't even believe Gavin is fighting at light welter. I suppose they saw the chance to pick up an easy belt, and earn some money in a less competetive division. It seems strange, I can't imagine Enzo reccomended it I'm sure he could get down to super feather. Tough division admittedly, but there are some big fights and his style and power would be much more effective
