There's nothing unfair about it - it's just a description of ability to take a punch, which does vary. And while there certainly are a variety of factors that impact punch resistance - such as the class of the fighter, their speed, reaction time, etc. - the fact is that punch resistance does vary, and some fighters have sturdier chins that others, whatever the underlying reasons may be. And it is a worthwhile exercise to make an assessment of this on the part of boxing fans and ****ysts.

To say that someone has a "weak chin" or a "glass jaw" is simply a shorthand term to convey this assessment. It is not simply the opposite of a great chin - which I think is relatively rare - but rather signifies a spectrum of punch resistance that is less than 100 percent reliable.

To wit - most fighters have "weak chins" or "glass jaws," they only differ in the degree to which they are afflicted with less than completely solid punch resistance.

I'm sorry, I missed Tunney and Quarry, they'd be in the good chin section.

Sonny did have an elite chin. On that level. He was only legitimately down once in his career. Anyways, this isn't what you think, this is the general consensus.

He got knocked out when he was well over 40, maybe even 50, when he had the flu, by a very hard punching heavyweight. That combo was a thing of beauty. I can't see to many people (if anybody) survive that, especially that late in the fight.

Why remove them and not just add Holmes and Tyson? They had great chins.

Hahah you are terrible.worst poster ever. Leotis Martín was not even a hw and he is not even top 1000 hw punchers in history. Martin was a much weaker puncher than morrison.stewart.holyfield.moorer.cooper or briggs and if i dont remember bad an ancient forman took every shot. So no. Not even close.liston dont deserves this list

I see you're still your childish immature self. Ring magazine had
Martin at #68 in top 100 punchers. But hey, you know more than them right?

Martin literally killed a man with his bare hands. What more do you need to know about his punching power?
Again, this isn't what you think, this is what the general consensus is.

Cooper didn't hold a punch well. He was KO'd by Johannsen, Folley, Patterson & Joe Bygraves.

He was floored for a count in the first Folley fight, knocked down twice by the relatively light punching Roger Rischer, knocked down & out on his feet in the 10th round by Alex Miteff but clung on to win. Also cut & floored by **** Richardson before his left hook got him out of trouble.

This is the only fighter that I see you as selling short here.

I think it was more that he had a weak nervous disposition!

Glass jaws do not exist. We will not talk about them on this forum.
