George Foreman '73 Vs Tyson '88

Foreman did not have a 'granite chin' when stumbling about on ***** Street And being dropped twice from single punches from Ron Lyle.

In actuality prime George Foreman in truth has worse stamina than Mike Tyson. Foreman was gassing in 5 short rounds of slugging with Ron Lyle. Tyson had 7 and 12 rounds of slugging with Donovan Ruddock and both times he did not get gassed. I will not both mentionning the Jimmy Young/James Douglas fights as both Foreman and Tyson were very dehydrated. For a comparison to Tyson gassing when fighting Evander Holyfield, it is easy to point out Foreman gassing when he was facing Muhammad Ali.

But Tyson had n't met anyone who had the sheer raw power that Foreman had.

 

And Foreman had never met someone who could punch as fast and hard as Tyson could. Foreman defensively was not that good and in 1988 Tyson was very difficult to hit cleanly.

 

Tyson's defence was as good as you say. However,we soon learned that Tyson could fall prey to intimidation. Foreman had that....in spades.

 

Anything could happen but I think more times than not that Foreman wins by KO inside of 5. I think it's a slugfest for as long as it lasts. I think Tyson lands more in the 1st round but if Foreman catches him coming in he might go down... Tyson probably wins round 1 if he doesn't go down.

They both praise one another after the fight. Foreman talks about Tyson's speed, power, and movement. Tyson talks about Foreman's toughness, strength, and power.

This is one of those fights, either guy could win; afterwords, 51% will say 'Well, duh!, how else would it have turned out'.

 

While that definitely played a big part in the manner Foreman ended up losing, he was being outboxed when the action was in the centre of the ring, away from the ropes, and would probably have lost on points if he hadn't been KOd.



As to the thread question, Foreman by early to mid-rounds KO.

 

Foreman was in some ways very similar to Tyson in the early part of his career. He was the big scary monster that intimidated everyone but Ali took that from him when he was in his prime.

I dont think intimidation would be a factor in this one. Tyson by 88 was a very confident fighter it would have come down to skills and Tyson at his best always had more talent than Foreman in my opinion.

 

I think Mike would win handily. He is better than George.

Frazier had no footspeed, or any speed for that matter. Tyson would blitz Foreman in the first round. George had no defense; he would get sparked before he could even come close to landing a decent punch on Tyson.

Tyson was only effective at mid-range and was susceptible to the uppercut, if Tyson gets too close to Foreman all he'd need to do is shove him back at long range or unload some hooks and uppercuts. Contrary to what everyone thinks Foreman for the most part didn't wing his punches watch the Frazier fight every hook and uppercut landed was a quick short one, he only tended to wing his punches when he had a man hurt and went into his litte "frenzy" where he just threw caution to wind. The fact that Foreman would also stand up to Tyson and not be intimidated would also affect the fight.
