Hws tend to be exceptions with their primes coming a little later, up to around 30. though yes turning 30 was considered a turning point, based on physical evidences, true, every year after 30, physical losses are a progressive pattern in populations according to mid20th century studies..
Foreman coming back to win the true championship gives him top five ATG status. Nothing like that has ever occurred in any sport. Credit has to be given for an unpresidented achievement. Prior to this George does not make the top ten. He was an unfinished book.
I dunno, people get into atg rankings for being unprecedented but should it guaranteed them top five status. Tyson was unprecedented too, title at 20, hesnot top five. Patterson was tysons equivalent for that feat, hes barely an atg. maybe I make him top six now though.

I love Big George. But I think just ouside. He never dominated an era, and whereas his resume is outstanding on the top end, it is also pretty shallow. Frazier (twice) Norton Moorer ****ey Lyle Everyone else: Cooper, Qawi, Stewart, Roman, Chavulo, Wepner, Rodriguez, Schultz, etc. In addition, he lost the biggest fight of his career.
I have him at 2. Besides a prime Ali, there is no-one in the history of hw (and non hw) boxing who is a favorite against 24yo Foreman. There are some alltime greats who might beat him. But name 1 fighter (not Ali) who is a clear favorite in a match with prime Foreman. Some may place more skilled fighter above Foreman in this list, but its about the total picture. His insane power in both hands, his iron chin combined with a very agresive style are just to much to handle.
