Foreman has a better chin and is a better fighter, he should win this one. If you threw in the rusty damaged psyche version that fought Lyle then Shavers might be in with a shot.

What's interesting is George Foreman was the National AAU champion in 1968 (the year he won the Olympics). Earnie Shavers was the National AAU champion in 1969, succeeding Foreman. And, after Shavers turned pro, Ron Lyle became the National AAU champion in 1970.

Just before Foreman and Shavers' pro debuts in 1969, Shavers (in his biography) says he received a call from George Foreman's team asking if he wanted to fight Foreman on the Frazier-Zyclewicz undercard in Texas (Foreman's home state).

The caller said the fight could be an exhibition instead of their pro debuts. He just wanted to match the last two U.S. national boxing champions ... and further "hype" Foreman who was coming off the Olympics before his home state fans. The catch was, according to Shavers, they wanted Shavers to agree to "lose."

But Shavers declined the offer. And both guys (Shavers and Foreman) turned pro a few months after the Frazier-Zyglewicz fight against other people.

However, there was actually an offer on the table for Foreman and Shavers to fight each other in their pro debuts, and it could have been a fixed fight on top of that.

Just thought I'd share that nugget.

Shavers had some horrible losses on his record. Foreman simply a cut above. He should bust Shavers up every time, and I think his defence and chin are good enough to weather the storm. Shavers might win one or two out of a ten match series (maybe) but Big George has to be a heavy favourite.

Earnie Shavers with the chin of Ron Lyle would definitely give Foreman
some Problems. But his Chin is bad , look the Quarry fight.

If Jerry can Knockout Shavers in the first than Foreman will do worst

    Foreman KO1 , No Brainer.

Ron Stander knocked Shavers out after taking some incredible shots. My uncle saw it. Foreman had a better jab, etc. Ali said Earnie was the hardest puncher he ever faced, but, I would pick Foreman in 3. Also Lyle knocked Shavers out in a war, I believe, in Denver.
