Peralta, while not young was 34 ,he had just drawn with Bonavena, would have another 25 fights over the next 3 years and draw with Lyle in his last fight.Foreman had just 15 fights when he went in with Peralta ,a defensive cutie. And Gregorio weighed 197lbs and hadn't been a lhvy for 3 years! He was only stopped 3 times in116 fights ,one of those was a cut eye,the only man to stop him at heavyweight was Foreman, in the rematch.
Let me see Gene Tunney a guy who was a 170 pounds most of his career and best win came against 190 pound past his prime Jack Dempsey vs 6'3 230 pound heavyweight George Foreman. Let me see Tunney a guy who fought from 1915 to 1928 when the skill level was vastly inferior to modern fights. Foreman by knockout in less than 30 seconds. Peralta fought in the modern era. Peralta fought various guys who are modern sized heavyweights. Tunney never fought a modern sized heavyweight. He fought in a era where the skilled level was primitive. Asking who would win between Foreman and Tunney is like asking who would win a 100 meter dash between Usain Bolt and a guy from 200 years ago who never ran a 100 meters before.
Lol this has to be one of the dumbest comments I read. Tunney was considered skilled for his era. Compared to modern boxers he wouldn't be considered skilled. When Foreman fought Peralta the first time he was only boxing for 6 months. So because a Peralta who had over 80 bouts and was boxing for years made a young in experienced Foreman work for a win it means something? Foreman fought Peralta again and stopped him in the 10ths round. Tunney lost to 160 pound Harry Greb. He had a draw against 150-160 pound Tommy Gavigan. 160 Tommy Loughran also fought Tunney to a draw. But yeah since Tunney was considered skilled for 1920's standards then it equates to being skilled compared to modern boxing right? From 1928 to 1969 when Foreman turned pro boxing skill level has remain the same? It cracks me up when want to be boxing experts like you pick and choose to prove your point. You are going to find a fight when Foreman was extremely inexperienced and try to use that as justification of his skill level. I bet you are one of those people who makes excuses to way 160 pound Ted Lowry beat the tar out of Marciano and got robbed right? You will probably make excuses to way Jack Dempey fighting in a joke era was knocked out in 1 round by Jim "Fireman" Flynn. There is no way Dempsey could even beat a mediocre middleweght now days. The skill level and athleticism has evolve light years beyond anything that was in Dempsey. Tunney's era. Foreman would walk Tunney to the ropes and destroy him in less than 1 minute.
