Lennox Lewis was the absolute worst though.

That was disgusting. A 3-punch combo LOL !
All credit to Acey for carrying on after that.

Roman was mocking him and making light of him during the weigh in. Poking fun at George Foreman in those days wasn't good for your health.

    Right.

People who claim that Holyfield or Hopkins are dirty should also watch some Lennox' fights.

Holding and hitting was part of Lewis' style like headbutting was part of Holyfield's style.

I mean, holding an arm of opponent, or ever head of opponent (like in the Grant fight) and hitting him at the same time, which isn't allowed by the boxing rules :)

Howard Cosell calling the bout used that exact word when describing the finish ,controversial, and so did two next day fight reports!

Not many saints among them is there. Holmes with the most educated thumb ever to be gloved, Holyfield's head, Lewis holding and hitting, Spinks with his brilliant use of elbows, Wlad and all his holding, Ali shoving heads down. Th list is endless.

I don't understand people getting worked up about dirty fighters.
    Part of the game.

After a boxer receives a certain number of warnings and continues fouling he becomes a candidate for disqualification. If he receives no warnings then it encourages him to continue. That's what happened in this fight. That's why I admire Cortez as a ref-he warns for fouls and disqualifies if the fighter ignores him. In contrast this ref, who resembles a younger version of the Broner Maidana ref who has a bad reputation, [Is it him?] just went along with the whole garabage as if it was OK by him.

Yeah. I think Lewis did something similar at the end of the Bruno fight. I remember the referee jumping in and warning him, everyone thought it was a stoppage. Then they resumed the fight and Lewis hit him a few times (I think continuing to foul still) and won by TKO.

Of course, Bruno was gone after that beauty of a left hook anyway and Bruno was perhaps the all-time hold-and-hit culprit in his own right ! Got some of his own medicine.

If dirty fighting were part of the game then there would not be rules which call for point deductions and disqualifications if necessary when it is employed. Even in MMA rules have to be followed. For example a downward elbow smash a prone fighters face is illegal as is eye gauging or ignoring a tap out. Such rules are implemented for the fighter's safety.

    BTW
Hitting behind the head is not allowed because of the danger of causing paralyses via injury to the brain stem. Hitting a man when down can severely injure him because he can't brace himself for impact nor protect himself effectively while in that vulnerable position-especially if he's already hurt..

I must admit, I don't really have a problem with fighters for offensive fouling. I think excessive holding is worse - and the worst cheating is when they either foul to get out of the fight or they pretend to have been fouled !
Headbutts, elbows, low blows, holding and hitting are somehow more palatable, used within reason. It's part of the game.
Having said that, a lot depends on style. I never minded Tyson and Holyfield or Marciano but a guy like Andre Ward is just plain ugly with it.

I am probably not suitable to be a referee, mind you.

You did have St. Michael G. Tyson (I wrote a letter to the Vatican demanding that Tyson be made a saint. They haven't replied)

Hitting a man while he's down should be an automatic disqualification.
Despite what I said about being tolerant to some dirty tactics, that is beyond the pale for me.
Also, it's not even debatable about intention. When a fighter's on a knee or sat down the opponent can see that he's down and can't defend himself.
At least a guy who butts or elbows might be able to argue due to styles it was "self defense".
