Lyle did not KO Eliis, Shavers did, Lyle did not hurt Quarry in 12 rds but Quarry hurt Lyle, Lyle did not KO Bugner, others did, Lyle did not KO Ellis, others did Could Lyle punch yes, did he prove to be a murderous puncher at the higher level, not really

  2. ingo could ko eddie machen and liston could not ko machen, is ingo harder puncher than liston? Hell no.
Ali knocked foreman out. And frazier ,norton, cooney, lyle, cooper, moorer,morrison... could not ko foreman. Is ali harder puncher than these guys? Hell no!!! So your point prove absolutely nothing.

Ingo had a lot of weaknesses but punching was not one of them.

good example- Ali had accuracy and could pin-point a punch sometimes this is better than pure power and this is my exact point with Jersey Joe Walcott, the guy had accuracy and power and proved it against all- time greats

  4. nobody said that ingo was not a puncher, but obviously liston was harder puncher. and still ingo could ko machen and liston could not. so your point prove nothing.
ali never knocked foreman out because he had accuracy(foreman took tons of clean shots from ali in the early rounds), it was because he had the chin and the stamina to take a beating from foreman and to tire foreman. foreman could not be knocked out in the early rounds, simple.

Lyle came pretty close if you ask me

  6. the word nearly is =nothing in the boxing.
i can say " walcott exposed marciano badly but finally he did catch walcott" " ali almost lost against cooper" the facts are that marciano won by ko,and ali destroyed the eye of cooper, end of the history.
foreman was bad mentally, he was down, he got up and he won by ko, end of the history

Lyle was not a great fighter, end of the history.

at his best foreman was not ready to beat a healthy, great fighter on top of his game. too green to beat a great. the record proves it. end of the history.

Quarry diced up Lyle because he outboxed him. He fought a very controlled, intelligent fight. He used a skill set that Marciano never displayed in he ring. Styles make fights. What's the similarity between Rocky and Jerry except that both were white and were close to the same size ? Quarry was a counter puncher with good boxing skills. Rocky was a completely different fighter. Perhaps you can tell me the fight where Rocky outboxed a much larger man with footwork with his jab, footwork and excellent counter punching.

The Lyle bout references are a joke. How many times do we need to highlight the difference between power and the ability to administer it ? You positioning of Lyle as anything other than a murderous puncher shows you're simply clueless on the topic of Lyle..

Bummy...you are wasting your time with this guy...clearly he has a pre-conceived idea on the subject and is not open to a different opinion to his own.

Here Here - that combateobloke and Hegrant are just set in the ways I guess - to the point of pure delusion - Moore and Walcott weren't big punchers hahaha  what a joke - these guys just have been brainwashed into thinking no one but no one could possibly even last 5 minutes in a ring with the likes of Foreman/Frazier/Ali - and even the fringe contenders would've beaten the all time greats of any other era - because obviously Ron Lyle was one of the elite legendary fighters of all time clearly

oh no marciano would walk through foreman's punches to get in range and then chop him down. no problemo as marciano would never go down from a foreman punch as he took punches from the massive hitting heavies walcott and archie moore.

Point is it was a solid punch by Quarry that made Ron fight a survivors fight...Lyle is another guy who most of his major wins were by decision once he moved up in class and was known for his losses to Ali,Quarry,Foreman,Young....he did have the attrition battle vs Shavers and I would call him a puncher but despite his size and an almost win vs the (untested vs a puncher) Foreman, Lyle is not a puncher in the class of a Bob Satterfield, Marciano,Louis,Lewis,Tyson IMO and his record vs contenders would show you that
