Anyone catch the George Foreman bizography. It played the other night on CNBC. It followed him from early stages of growing up, all the way up to today. Very interesting. http://www.cnbc.com/id/38347294/
I think his HBO colleagues would disagree, they have nothing but good words to say about George and you'd think there would be a few 'issues' or incidents after working with him for 13+ years if he was 'vicious' and 'malicious'. Sometimes that salesmen/evangelical pitch tone comes through his voice, but the man has to be commended for changing his life around to the point where it's difficult to find a nicer, gentler person, according to those who've interacted with him for years. Oh and which KO artist didn't enjoy bludgeoning his opponents? thats the name of their game my friend.
just saying what i heard and lampley has had some unkind words about george. he certainly didn't miss him
One of my favorite parts was when George Foreman had a press conference with Moorer and his trainer Atlas. Atlas had to be restrained from going after Foreman, who was sitting down totally casual and said something like "Get me a sandwich, boy" to Atlas, which of course infuriated Atlas.
George Foreman is my all time favorite color commentator. With him behind the mic every fight became a lesson in life, boxing and professional fighting.
Yes, damn it. This right here. Boxing has more personality and drama built into it than any other sport, hands down. It's no small part of why I love it. It's just one guy against another, but in a great fight they lay it ALL on the line. A guy hits a baseball over a fence, big deal, scores a touchdown, big deal. A guy goes through absolute hell in 12 rounds to become champion of the world - that's everything.
Foreman basically kidnapped a couple of his children from his estranged wife in St. Lucia, where armed guards were around that area and probably would've killed him if he had been caught. He then escaped back to the mainland on a boat filled with drug-dealing Rastafarians who helped him. That's Hollywood stuff right there.
When Wlad got KTFO by Sanders Larry: "This is a shock to the entire boxing world" George: "It's a shock only to your world Larry" I miss George's commentary. The quality of his opinions may not have always been consistently high, but his voice and delivery were very memorable. He was also pretty articulate. Infinitly more exciting than Steward and a gadfly to Lamply's inflated ego. Not a cheerleader like Kellerman.
I do it for all you little Hulkamaniacs out there. Now stay in school, don't do drugs and drink your milk. :good
I met George off camera, still a great bloke. The story on how the Foreman grill came about was great, and if you email him on his fuzzy accout, he will answer, and answer honestly.
